A long string of local society notes reports Sundays spent in the cities by many residents. Visits touch Minneapolis Benson New London Pennock Kandiyoh Litchfield and Long Lake with relatives and friends. Several weddings births and hospital surgeries are noted, along with travel to see football games and attend services.
John Rhode of Kandiyohi County disposed of forty three head of purebred Shorthorn cattle at a Willmar sale held on June 1908. Col F M Woods presided with H McDean and W N Davis assisting. Prices ranged to 350 for bulls and up to 200 for cows. The drought forced Rhode to reduce his herd, choosing Willmar to reach buyers across Kandiyohi and adjacent townships. The sale list details numerous individual cows and bulls with calving dates and buyers, including C A Berg Kandiyohi Township and Wm H Bridel Clara City.
Bull-Young Victor and two other bulls sold to named buyers with prices. Mr. Rhode farms 880 acres in Murray County with 160 Shorthorns, 400 Shropshire sheep, 30 Percheron horses, and 100 Duroc Jersey hogs. Eighth Grade defeats Second Team 6 to 5 in a fierce scrimmage led by Walter Erickson and Lenas Thyden with key plays and refereeing by D. J. Taylor and Gerald Geer.
The Confirmation Alumni of the Synod church gathered Monday evening for the seventh annual reunion with 76 in attendance. A banquet followed at six. An uplifting program featured several performances and readings by Agnes Dalen Eva Johnson Mathilda Enger Constance Grangaard Sophia Tallakson Lillian Boyd Martha Westrom Alma Sivertson Edna Tallakson Lucile Andersen and remarks by Pastor Rev Andersen. Officers elected included President Nawin Kiland 1st Vice President Norman Tallakson Vice President Edith Estrem Secretary Olof Knutson Treasurer Constance Grangaard and a program committee listing multiple members.
Confirmation services at the Lutheran Synod church Sunday impressed attendees despite harsh weather. The rite included catechising, Norwegian addressed by Rev. W.N. Andersen, English remarks, and an offering for Home Missions. Confirmed: Albert Leroy Christian, Henry Milton Berg, Peder Olof Sletten, Nils Arthur Knudson, Ole Amundson, Joseph Orlean Christian, Olof Hagebert Solbers, Elizabeth Theressa Henson, Mabel Edwardson, Vivian Olive Olsen, Sophie Hansine Engelstad, Myrtle Matilde Victoria Olson, Edna Lila Johnson, Gertie M. Thorson.
Various locals report visits and arrivals in the area. Several individuals including John Lundquist of Atwater and Arthur Johnson of Alexandria were in the city on business or for social visits. Anticipated movements include Esther Holt, Miss Tina Olson, Miss Selma Henjum, and Elisabeth Hanson visiting from nearby towns, with Dr. Isabelle Fleming and Dr. B Z Branton also mentioned in recent travel.
A church column lists notices from Swedish Mission Church and Norw. Luth. Synod. Events include prayer meeting, coffee social, Sunday school, services, and a concert planned in the Baptist church area. One of the season's social highlights was a reception for public school and seminary teachers and school board members at the Elk's Club Rooms Friday evening. Swalin's Orchestra provided music as Dr. H. E. Frost, Dr. J. R. Petersen, Ay and Mrs. Russell Spicer, Mrs. Jerry English, Miss Olive Crosby, B. C. Wellin, and R. W. Stanford were greeted. frappones were offered by several hosts.

Willmar High School held a Tuesday class meeting in Room 7 electing Sylvester Limperich as president Nellie Robbins as vice president Amy Severinson as treasurer and Helga Berg as secretary. The Willmar team lost 21 to 0 to Litchfield at Litchfield Saturday. Freshmen gave a short program Friday morning and many WHS girls attended the game. Exams begin this week Lutia Holt was absent Monday afternoon. Athletic meetings for WHS girls produced Mildred Parsons as president Blanche MacNees as vice president and Myrtle Cramer as secretary treasurer. The Kandiyohi County Teachers Convention gathered at the high school Saturday with talks and a short program. Next Saturday afternoon a WHS team faces Benson at the Willmar Athletic Park. A candy feed was held Friday night. The first literary program of the year is set for Wednesday October 26. New London teachers visited Friday. Vacation for teachers and students is planned Wednesday afternoon Thursday and Friday for the Minneapolis convention.
Karen Christine Lillegaard a respected Whitefield resident died October 18 after two years of paralysis and pneumonia. Funeral held Monday at Free Church with Rev Michaelson. pallbearers included Hans G Ruud P H Nelson J G Freeberg and others. Born November 1 1842 in Norway Nordahl. survived by husband Peter, son Andrew and three stepchildren. brother N J Nordahl sister Mia and Jacob Flogstad in Norway. many relatives and friends remember her as a devout Christian.
Broniois Sweden July to Oct letter recounts returning to Broniis and visiting Swedish Americans on farms. He details lobster hunting using a bicycle lamp, a picnic with Hulda and Julia Lagerquist, farm life, lumber mills, a large dam near Hvetlanda, and power generation. He visits churches, attends a funeral with invitations, buys a tailor made suit, travels to Stockholm, enjoys the Royal Opera, Skansen, Northern Museum, and Saltsjébaden, and notes prices, lodging, and meals in Sweden.
Eighteen youths were confirmed at the Lutheran Free Church on October 15. Names include Alexander Gilbert Sand, Paul Morris Holt, Albin Hegstrom, Otto Jensen, George Sandersen, George Otternes, Albert Wikre, Amy Strand, Marie Voge, Cora Erickson, Marie Anderson, Sigrid Berg, Olga Elijer, Mabel Sorensen, Cora Gundershaug, Ella Helmer, Pearl Nygaard, Muriel Anderson, and Inga Brekke. Six confirmed in English. A reunion for all Rev. Michaelson’s confirmands followed Monday evening with seventy-two in attendance.
Hon. E. E. Lobeck, known as The Viking of Prohibition Reform, will address Willmar residents at the Opera House next Tuesday evening, Oct. 31. Since his last visit, he has toured nationwide, boosting his fame as a national figure in prohibition reform.
A seasoned legislator from Minnesota's 25th and 26th sessions will discuss current questions of the day in a capable manner. Citizens are urged to attend the event, which will feature special music and take place next Tuesday evening, October 31.
The Ladies Social Union invites all to a Thursday evening social in the Presbyterian church lecture room at % o'clock. A short program will be presented and light refreshments served. Members who earned money for the talent fund will share how they secured it. Admission ten cents.
