Willmar Hosts Large Shorthorn Herd Sale In Willmar

John Rhode of Kandiyohi County disposed of forty three head of purebred Shorthorn cattle at a Willmar sale held on June 1908. Col F M Woods presided with H McDean and W N Davis assisting. Prices ranged to 350 for bulls and up to 200 for cows. The drought forced Rhode to reduce his herd, choosing Willmar to reach buyers across Kandiyohi and adjacent townships. The sale list details numerous individual cows and bulls with calving dates and buyers, including C A Berg Kandiyohi Township and Wm H Bridel Clara City.

Bull-Young Victor and two other bulls sold to named buyers with prices. Mr. Rhode farms 880 acres in Murray County with 160 Shorthorns, 400 Shropshire sheep, 30 Percheron horses, and 100 Duroc Jersey hogs. Eighth Grade defeats Second Team 6 to 5 in a fierce scrimmage led by Walter Erickson and Lenas Thyden with key plays and refereeing by D. J. Taylor and Gerald Geer.

Seventh annual Confirmation Alumni reunion held

The Confirmation Alumni of the Synod church gathered Monday evening for the seventh annual reunion with 76 in attendance. A banquet followed at six. An uplifting program featured several performances and readings by Agnes Dalen Eva Johnson Mathilda Enger Constance Grangaard Sophia Tallakson Lillian Boyd Martha Westrom Alma Sivertson Edna Tallakson Lucile Andersen and remarks by Pastor Rev Andersen. Officers elected included President Nawin Kiland 1st Vice President Norman Tallakson Vice President Edith Estrem Secretary Olof Knutson Treasurer Constance Grangaard and a program committee listing multiple members.

One of the season's social highlights was a reception for public school and seminary teachers and school board members at the Elk's Club Rooms Friday evening. Swalin's Orchestra provided music as Dr. H. E. Frost, Dr. J. R. Petersen, Ay and Mrs. Russell Spicer, Mrs. Jerry English, Miss Olive Crosby, B. C. Wellin, and R. W. Willmar Freshmen Elect Officers And Local Events

Willmar High School held a Tuesday class meeting in Room 7 electing Sylvester Limperich as president Nellie Robbins as vice president Amy Severinson as treasurer and Helga Berg as secretary. The Willmar team lost 21 to 0 to Litchfield at Litchfield Saturday. Freshmen gave a short program Friday morning and many WHS girls attended the game. Exams begin this week Lutia Holt was absent Monday afternoon. Athletic meetings for WHS girls produced Mildred Parsons as president Blanche MacNees as vice president and Myrtle Cramer as secretary treasurer. The Kandiyohi County Teachers Convention gathered at the high school Saturday with talks and a short program. Next Saturday afternoon a WHS team faces Benson at the Willmar Athletic Park. A candy feed was held Friday night. The first literary program of the year is set for Wednesday October 26. New London teachers visited Friday. Vacation for teachers and students is planned Wednesday afternoon Thursday and Friday for the Minneapolis convention.

Karen Christine Lillegaard a respected Whitefield resident died October 18 after two years of paralysis and pneumonia.
