Ilaylse Class Confirmed At Willmar Free Church

Last Sunday a class of thirty-one youths was confirmed at the Lutheran Free Church in Willmar by Rev. M. B. Michaelson. Twenty-two were confirmed in Norwegian and nine in English. The day included morning catechism and confirmation rites with afternoon communion. The list includes Henry Hanson, Louis Urdahl, Harold Hamann, and many others. The second annual Free Church Confirmation Covenant meeting followed in the church parlors with a six o'clock supper, devotional exercises, solos, recitations, and a business session electing Esther Wolberg as president and officers for the coming year. About 110 members attended.

Concert at Fahlan Baptist Church by Swedish Mission Choir

A Friday evening concert at Fahlan Baptist Church near Sven features the Swedish Mission Church choir from Willmar. Unveiling of John Albert Johnson statue at Minnesota Capitol

Last Saturday, Oct 19, the John Albert Johnson statue was unveiled before the State Capitol in St Paul. Contributions came from every Minnesota county totaling 24,072.71, Kandiyohi county providing 31.61 of that amount. The monument honors Johnson with four figures miner farmer iron worker and timber cruiser. Sculptor Andrew O Connor. Total cost 21,500 leaving 2,572.75. remaining funds may fund a replica in St Peter Johnson’s home town.

Views of International Falls Feature Evening Program

State Hospital at Willmar Delays Opening Until December

Dwiikea and family occupy the State Hospital for Inebriates superintendent’s cottage this week. R. M. Noren arrives to fill the Willmar institution’s steward role. Plumbing work caused a postponement, with Dr. Tomlinson predicting readiness by early December and the governor issuing a proclamation to probate courts. The Willmar Tribune plans an illustrated feature later.

Pioneer Press writer Ludvig 5. Dale resumes duties in Willmar

Ludvig 5. Dale arrives from Norway to resume work at the Pioneer Press and Dispatch. Readers enjoyed two articles from his pen in the last Sunday issue, with one reprinted on another page. Obituary for Peter Peterson Swedish settler of Whitefield

Peter Peterson, a pioneer of Whitefield township and charter member of Kandiyohi county's first Swedish Baptist church, died at 78 years, 10 months, 11 days. He passed Monday evening at his daughter’s home in Willmar. funeral Friday at 1 PM at the Swedish Baptist church with Rev. Carl E. Oberg officiating. He was born December 11, 1833 in Oppmanna parish, Scania, Sweden and emigrated to America in 1867. He married Misa Inga Olsdotter in 1865. Survivors include wife Misa, four children A. P. Harold, Minnie Rostade, Mrs. Chas. Johnson, and Mrs. Remus Swenson.

At noon today Mrs Hmma Berglund Lind died at their home on 217 Trott Avenue aged 33 after a 15 month tuberculosis illness. Survived by husband Gustaf Lind and four children Elmer Alma Hilda Arnold, plus her parents and siblings. Funeral Saturday at Lundby church. John McDermott, longtime West Coast resident, died suddenly in Portland Oregon from heart failure, leaving a wife eight children and extended family. Bertha Emelia Brekke, infant daughter of Albert and Mrs Brekke near Willmar, died October 18 aged almost one year. funeral in Lutheran Free Church cemetery. John Asplund of Mamre died at Willmar hospital from Brights disease aged about 70, leaving wife and five children. Agricultural Board sets December 3 meeting to discuss fair grounds. Sheriff Bonde informed of Albert Burman’s reformatory issue. mother expresses shock. Bonde Hall hosts a high class entertainment tomorrow night.

Seminary Opens Promising Year At Willmar

Three weeks into Willmar Seminary’s 31st school year enrollment stands at 83 on Oct 21, up 17 from last year. Heating plant and gymnasium upgrades are progressing, with the gym to serve as a multi use hall chapel and assembly room. New faculty include Miss Leonora Boyd and Miss Evelyn Grindeland enhancing stenography and music, the latter a new department. Athletics show a two game start with a key upcoming match against the local high school. Osseo Literary Society began its year. a new serial The Root of Evil by Thomas Dixon debuts pages nine and ten, praised for its lessons on temptation and perseverance.
