General merchandise and services ad from The Fair notes prompt delivery and courteous service. Various local items report land sales, library decisions, road trips, church events, teachers meeting, and civic matters including a saloon arrest warrant and a harsh moral stance on youth misconduct in Willmar.
Mrs. O H Locken of Willmar passed away after five weeks of illness with typhoid fever. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 20 at the house and 2 at the Norwegian Lutheran Free church, Rev. M B Michaelson officiating. Interment in the Free church cemetery west of town. Randi Knutson Locken, born December 28 1868 in Gulbrandsdalen Norway, came with husband and family to the United States in 1903 settling in Willmar. She leaves a bereaved husband six children and many relatives and friends. The community extends sympathy. The work continues amid approaching cold weather. Esther Swedberg of Kandiyohi visits town. E Johnson Threshing Co to begin shredding corn early in week. Plowing nearly finished. farmers busy hauling grain. Gertrude Carlson reported sick. Burdick Johnson left Friday for St Paul to spend the winter.
In Fahlun Oct 21 G A Freedholm of Minneapolis is doing carpentry for J A Lindblad. Anna Walstrand went to Minneapolis. Mr and Mrs John Anderson visited Willmar friends. The Fahlun and Whitefield Threshing Co finished their season, aided by the Pahlun Lake Elizabeth Co. A Baptist church concert drew a good crowd and funds. Mrs P A Sondin left for Minneapolis with Mr Sondin to Litchfield for business. Grain markets rise as Kandiyohi county farmers sell. A hearing in Litchfield on the big ditch tax proposal drew many farmers. Miss Anna Berg visited Willmar. Lindblad begins rebuilding mount barn after lightning strike.
Thea Quamn wed John Norby of Starbuck Minn in Ringville at Mr and Mrs Andrew Quamn home with Rev Tolo officiating. About 80 guests attended including distant relatives from Ashby Donelly Absby and Starbuck. They plan to make Starbuck their home after a wedding dinner outdoors and gifts from friends. Separately Mr Gaide sold property at auction and plans to move to Louisiana. two of his daughters Annie and Lizzie vanished the night before the sale and remain missing. Lilly Erickson worked at Simars place. Josie Hoiseth of Georgeville returns home to attend New London school. Bethania Ladies Aid met Mrs Stenerson.
Conductor Simon Rodberg returns from leave while F E Sivalia resumes a Willmar run. Great Northern appoints Geo T Slade as vice president after McGuigan resigns. Engineers Miller and McCabe swap duties and Dodd recovers from appendicitis after a fourth attack. Dozens of Japanese laborers work in the roundhouse. a freight wreck near Delano involves McNees with no injuries. Warde resigns as General Manager. Gruber takes over. Cond. James M Robinson’s death in Breckenridge mourned. Wm Kane selects funeral flowers in St Paul. Fireman I B Griffin marries a Benson girl. move to Willmar planned. Hans Henjum and daughters Lina and Selma visited Willmar, with Lina returning home and Selma staying for the Seminary. A 40 pound girl blessed Mr and Mrs Andrew Stone, a 13 pound girl at C Skindelsen’s, and twins welcomed Mr and Mrs Norval Helgeson. Negord store moves to the corner of First Street and Star Avenue. Threshing nears finish, weather permitting. Tina Hough heads to Minneapolis for business school.
Misa Nellie Solum staying in Willmar visited A Carlson's home and returned to Willmar on Friday. Several locals, including Ed Carlin's family and the Olsevik worker, moved and traveled. Eagle Lake Ladies Aid to meet Mrs Embertson Oct 31. Rev Gynild and Rykken led services at Grue schoolhouse and next Sunday at Eagle Lake church. Erickson Bros threshing finished. shredding corn for Ole Hendrickson. Miss Hilda Olson went to Willmar to work at Merchants hotel. A niece of Leonard Larson, Hannah Larson, married Edward Folgren of East Grand Forks in Willmar last Friday.
Superintendent Bowen leaves Willmar after six years to head the Spokane Division with headquarters in Spokane. Empl oyees regret the departure, praising his welfare focus and work ethic. Mr Gee, S Stewart, will replace Bowen as Willmar superintendent.
Granite Falls and New London teachers visited school last Friday as the month ends with quizzes and tests in full blast. Willie Stansberry quit school last week to take a job in Valhalla North Dakota as a neighbor of the mails in the railway mail service. The football team has been practicing hard all week under the direction of Great Northern surveyors based here.
A letter to Willmar and Kandiyohi County residents urges local purchase of Copper Creek Mining Co. stock at $1.00 per share. The author pledges a $1000 reward for proof of selling his own shares and offers a buyback option if early investors are not satisfied by year end. He seeks $150,000, with at least $100,000 steered to county residents, and predicts stock could rise to $5, $10, or higher in three years based on dividends and prospects.
