Corner Stone Laying At New Masonic Temple At Willmar

October sunshine aided the cornerstone ceremony for the new Masonic Temple. A long parade led by the Willmar Millray Band, and a program including prayers, a civic address, and a formal placing of the cornerstone with a sealed tin box containing records and relics. Grand Lodge officers and visiting Masons from Minnesota attended, with Bishop Yisall delivering remarks on fraternity liberty and loyalty and a district-wide list of attendees.

Accident injures Alton Sperry near Willmar farm

Alton Sperry son of Mr and Mrs ACH Sperry of Willmar was seriously injured when a misfired shotgun exploded while he was returning it to its case after a hunting trip near the city. He suffered severe facial lacerations and was rushed to Willmar Hospital where doctors reported the danger of infection subsided and his condition improved. Sperry, a Great Northern brakeman, is praised by comrades for a fortunate outcome amid the accident and ongoing recovery.

Lutheran Free and Mission Activities Highlight Local Parish Life

The Ladies societies of Lutherans north of the city meet Thursday at Kalle vigs and Friday at L. L. Thorpe’s with services at Thorpe’s schoolhouse. Dovre and Doreas groups hold Friday events with church basement gatherings and refreshments. Sunday services shift with no morning mass at one church and new times at St. John’s and Swedish Mission. A Friday sale by the Ladies Aid, sacred concert Thursday by the choir with Rev. Carl Hognander, and a Sunday obituary note accompany multiple parish updates and regional announcements.

Tragic end to Windom Willmar football game

Herbert Holmes 18 of Big Lake Minn died from a brain bleed after an injury in the third quarter of Montevideo sparked game between Windom Institute and Willmar High School. Holmes died at 6 45 p m Sunday after being rushed to hospital. Services held at Windom Institute. body sent to Glenwood for burial. Willmar officials attendance noted.

Willmar Leaders At Minnesota Educational Association Meet

Willmar figures participate as Minnesota Educational Association convenes in St. Paul with an opening session at Hotel St. Paul chaired by Prof. G A Foster. A O Forsberg presides over the Associated School Board section in the Senate Chamber. Miss Bertha Sandberg chairs the Scandinavian Language Round Table at Mechanics Arts High School Friday. Coral Osborn and Frances Kelly appear in training and mathematics discussions. British Red Cross Society forms Minnesota branch. fund to buy surgical dressings for wounded, with premises in the Midway district and subscriptions via C E B Hamilton and Mrs CG Bell. Covenant Society Holds Fourth Annual Meeting

The Covenant Society of the Lutheran Free Church met Monday evening October 19 in the church parlors. A six oclock supper was served to guests followed by a program including devotional exercises violin solo vocal duet by Thorwald and Igewald Rykken and choir numbers. Officers for next year were elected: President Ethel Goi ng Secretary Amy Strand Treasurer Martin Nelson Program Committee Ella Hamann Evelyn Berkness Elvira Jacobson Refreshment Committee listed. About 130 members attended, the largest gathering to date, ending with the oxology.

Willmar Library Tag Day Set to Raise Funds

Willmar’s Library Board announces a tag day on Oct 81 to raise 500 for buying ten feet of land north of the library to prevent window closure from the Masons building nearby. Rev W B Pearson and two others chair the effort, with a committee of city girls selling tags. Citizens urged to contribute to preserve the library as a valued community asset.

Former Irving resident killed near Anoka

Elias Christenson, about 55, who lived on the Hans Peterson farm in Irving until a year and a half ago, was killed at a farm near Anoka on Sunday October 4. He went to feed pigs, failed to return, and was found in the cattle yard with a broken neck and facial bruises. He died five minutes after being brought inside. It is thought he was gored by a bull. Christenson long resided in Irving town and is survived by four children and his wife who died fourteen years ago. Funeral was held at Nordland church in Irving with Rev. E. M. Hanson officiating. Relatives attended.

Smith Pleads Guilty and Is Fin ed

Charles Smith changed his plea to guilty on a manslaughter in the second degree charge. He was fined 450 dollars, which he paid. In State vs Hawkinson, the defendant pled guilty to selling liquor wholesale in Harrison Township and paid a 50 dollar fine. The grand jury reconvened and the Sterling Securities cases are expected to proceed, with multiple defendants to be tried separately. A strong legal team and the assistant attorney general will aid the defense. New London notes report local social visits, school staff, and confirmations at the Norwegian Lutheran Church, with several residents visiting or recovering from illness.
