Tragedy on Long Lake as hunter capsizes boat
One man died and two others were rescued when a small hunting boat capsized near Long Lake in Willmar area early Sunday. Albert Bastien of Little Falls died in the lake. Ralph Forsberg and Robert Howes were pulled from the water and saved with help from shore volunteers and a nearby farm family. Maintained search efforts continued Sunday and Monday with local divers and neighbors aiding in hopes of locating the missing body before the burial planned in Little Falls.

Truant Indian youths return to Wahpeton after Willmar encounter
Chief of Police Ole Westgard confronted four Wahpeton Government School students aged 17, 16, 16, and 11 in Willmar on Monday. The youths, who rode freight to town and fled toward Campbell Avenue, told varied stories before revealing they wished to return home to their families. They were transported back to Wahpeton yesterday after authorities were notified.

The second county horseshoe tournament was held Sunday on August avenue drawing a large crowd. Sixteen teams competed from Pennock Willmar Svea Spicer and Atwater. Pennock's Ernest Berglunas and Ben Hultgren won first prize of 7.20 with 50 cent admission totaling 16 in receipts four prizes awarded 7.20 4.80 2.40 and 1.60. Group elimination featured four groups of four teams leading to final games. About 35 elderly women from our city enjoyed a Wednesday afternoon hosted by the local WCTU. Mrs Ivee opened her home and arranged lunch with help from a WCTU committee, providing transport and programing for guests aged 73 to 89, with Mrs Lundgren noted as the oldest. The gathering reminded all that aging comes to everyone and they are valued.

Spicer Road Re-Surfacing Completed in Spicer
The Spicer Road, Trunk Highway No 4, near Spicer, was resurfaced by a state crew finishing last Saturday after starting August 15. Highway Superintendent C M Mathies oversaw a fifteen man team with S J Reader Company of Minneapolis hauling gravel from Eagle Lake. Eleven miles were improved at an estimated cost of about eleven thousand dollars. The road will be maintained, with patrols to keep it in good condition through spring.
