Odland Brothers Report From War Service In Hospital
Odland boys of Colfax were believed killed after an incident near Salt Lake but one returned from a hospital and reports he is getting along fine. Otto Odland remains in service and in hospital with no further details on Jim Odland’s status.

Private Alfred Week died in France on August 19. He was born November 24, 1884 in Norway Lake Township, son of John J. Week. Memorial services were held at Brooten. Happy Family Reunion at Alderman Norman Home
A large Norman family gathering occurred last Sunday at Alderman O A Norman's Fourth Ward residence. Twenty three years since the last such reunion, family members from Minnesota and North Dakota celebrated Mr Norman's seventy first birthday and his forty fifth wedding anniversary with a warm, animated visit that extended over a week.

Atwater Boy Dies a Hero in France
Private Bennet Samstad of the 130th U S Infantry was killed in action in France on August 15. Two comrades from home witnessed his death which was instantaneous. He left Litchfield February 26 and reached France in late May. Survived by parents Mr and Mrs O G Samstad and many siblings and grandparents. Born April 4, 1891, on the family farm in Acton township. Also note Chicago residents Mrs C E Piper and Mr N Piper visiting Findley family on Green Lake shore near Spicer.

Chester Nelson Encourages Liberty Bond Sales in New York
Extracts of a letter from Chester L. Nelson dated October 5 1918 describe his activities in New York selling Liberty Bonds. He reports selling 350000 worth in one outing before a small crowd, traveling between Carnegie Hall Williston Baldwins and Bills, and aiming for about 450000 total. He mentions a possible thirty day furlough, progress on his arm, and a women run home for soldiers where a kind host mother tends them through the nights.

One Hundred Six Teachers Attend County Institute in Willmar
One hundred six of the county's one hundred nineteen rural teachers attend the State Teachers Institute in Willmar held at the Presbyterian church this week. Instructors include Mary C. Lindholm and Elvera Walters with lectures by state educators. A Teachers Patriotic League and Little Citizens League are encouraged to promote American citizenship among students. Soldier Boys Die in influenza camps list seven losses
The county mourns a grim week as Spanish influenza claims seven soldier boys from local contingents leaving Willmar on September 5. Names include Floyd Wessels of Raymond, Willard Doss of Raymond, Christian Evenson of Brooten, Harry Paulson of Pennock, Herman Shutle of Dovre, Ray Franklin Lee of Atwater, John Peter Soderlund of Lake Andrew, Andrew Victor Lundgren of Colfax, Cornel O Dunham of New London, with funerals or notices pending in several towns.
Willmar and area mourn sons loss from war era illness
The region reports the death of Eddie Dokken, a former Willmar boy, at Camp Lewis from pneumonia on September 19. Sailor Frances Gordhammer, son of John Gordhammer of Kerkhoven and brother of Clarence Gordhammer, died at Puget Sound Navy Station from influenza. Funeral planned Friday with a Willmar Home Guards detail. Also, Sigvert Rasmusson of Willmar died of Spanish influenza at Camp Dodge. his brother Jonas, from Limit Ave, learned of his condition and traveled to Camp Grant but arrived too late. Sigvert enlisted from Glenwood. parents live abroad. Piano tuner Mr. McGrew of Minneapolis will visit the city this week. orders may be left at The Music Store.
