Old Building Moves to Outskirts as Center Grows

An old Barnatad building moved from the business center to Fourth Street after a 25 year run serving as drug and grocery shop. With rapid town growth, newer structures replace the aging frame building to clear space for expansion and better facilities. Farmers take an excursion to Beet Sugar Factory in Minneapolis to learn about sugar beets, with one fare round trip and a factory tour plus dinner. Railroads offer special excursion rates for the First Twentieth Century Missionary Convention in Minneapolis October 10–11 with round trip tickets.

To Be Examined as Insane After Tooth Extraction

Jonas Fridman a 21 year old immigrant from Sweden living near Priam was brought before the probate judge after a dental extraction led to insanity. Doctors Frost and Johnson testified he is insane and Deputy Nordstrom took him to Fergus Falls Thursday night. The case cites hereditary mental illness and homesickness as contributing factors.

Padlock on Church Door and Local Socials in Dakota

El Arneson reports strong business in North Dakota with good wheat crops and heavy straw from the harvest. Farmers faced threshing demand and machine shortages as plans to finish work rely on longer threshers. Robbery at Great Northern Depot and social notices

A safe at the Great Northern depot was blown open by burglars on Wednesday night taking about 50. With no night operator, the depot sits exposed to prowlers. Wedding announced for Charles William Hedman and Hilma Bergren on Wednesday Oct 16 at the bride’s mother's home in Dovre. The minister will be Rev. Morrison. Also reports: marriage licenses issued for John Olson to Helen Shaw and Fred W. Segerstrom to May vel Lydia Annette Johnson. Marie Reilson plans to open a music studio in Willmar.

State Board Increases Kandiyohi assesses and local auctions

State Board of Equalization raised Kandiyohi values across livestock and tools with varied percentages. Town of Dovre saw a 30 rise on agricultural tools, totaling a 125 increase for that class. The issue lists auction sales from Oct to Nov and local moves, meetings, and social notes from Willmar and surrounding areas, including railroad crime arrests and community notices.

Willmar council settles with insurer over power house loss

A special meeting of the village council approved settling with the insurer for a net loss of 6764.60 after salvage valued at 4305.88 and brick recovery of 4305.88. The report itemized building and machinery values, set boiler life to 18 years, and authorized plans for a new power house.

REW BUILDING CONTRACT FOR NEW POWER HOUSE

The Willmar council considered bids for a new power house. J H Olson’s bid was accepted for a one story brick building with a raised basement and ornamental front. A committee will purchase boiler dynamo and switchboard. A Mozart Quartette concert at Swedish Baptist church, Oct 14, offers music by Prof Francke and artists Frida Eklund Miss Baumbach Theodor Eklund Maria Lagergren with admission 35 cents, 15 cents for children under twelve.

Wayward Girl May Porter Involved In Missing Money Case

May Porter of Cokato, employed by John Paulson, left her job during the village fair. About 230 dollars hidden in a bureau drawer also disappeared at the same time, suggesting an alliance with money. Officer Trau found Porter with one of the quartet of colored fingers and released her since no arrest warrant existed. Reports say this wasn’t her first escapade. Paulson notes she was a good worker but spent too much time on the streets at night.

McPhee Company Delivers Evening Show Despite Lights Failure

The McPhee company drew a fair audience last night though many thought the show would be canceled due to a temporary electric outage. Performances were praised as excellent with specialties among the best Willmar has seen and repeatedly encored. The troupe plans The Two Orphans tonight with interludes between acts. An illustrated lecture by Professor Maria L. Sanford of the State University on Greek Art and Literature will follow at the High School building next Monday at 8 o'clock. the engaging speaker promises an informative address worth attending.
