Tragedy at Green Lake near Interlachen claims Bates and Brenizer

A squall capsized a boat on Green Lake near Interlachen Friday. Charles Bates, Sioux Falls attorney, and Jack Brenizer, veteran guide, drowned. E G Kennedy survived after a perilous rescue. Alfred Hanson, a hotel employee, aided survivors and helped recover bodies. Funeral arrangements and Bates family details follow.

Large Drainage District Formed in Minnesota River Valley

Twenty eight counties forming the Minnesota River watershed organize a single drainage and conservancy district at a meeting in New Ulm led by the Tri-State Flood Control Association. The district court will appoint a five member governing board, and projects require federal and state approvals before work begins.

Glencoe suffers second reversal in football

Wilmar High School overwhelmed Glencoe 40 to 0 on a sunny Saturday. Willmar built a 7-0 lead by the first quarter, added two touchdowns in the second, and finished with six touchdowns as Glencoe struggled with signals. Coach Trebilcock remained optimistic about future victories.

Willmar to Circulate Paving Petitions After Club Endorsement

The Commercial Club approved a paving program for Willmar downtown and connected east west streets. The Paving Improvement Committee will circulate petitions requiring at least 25 percent of property owners representing 50 percent of abutting property. The club invites the American Legion to hold its District convention in Willmar next year.

Two Rousing Rallies Drive Support for Rev. O. J. Kvale

Rev. O J Kvale held two large campaign meetings Saturday speaking in New London and Kerkhoven with long addresses. He was introduced by N B Randall and drew crowded halls, the Kerkhoven event lasting two and a half hours.

District Court opened in fall session with Grand Jury electing Stromme L. Johnson foreman and 8. O. Diffendorf clerk. Court adjourned until Tuesday noon with several civil matters continued. Verdicts awarded included $707.20 to plaintiff in Bengtson v Brandt and a divorce win for Arthur Hanson.

PREUS AND COLLINS TO SPEAK IN WILLMAR MONDAY

Jake Preus and Louis L. Collins will speak in Willmar at 7 p m on Oct 11. Preus will deliver the principal address with Collins offering brief remarks. They travel by motor when possible but use trains if roads or weather hamper travel.

Seventh District Rally Slated At Willmar October 16

A large Seventh District Progressive rally is set for October 16 at the Willmar Opera House with an afternoon and evening program. Speakers include Thos Sullivan and Rev O J Kyale, plus district committee members from Cottonwood and Granite Falls. The event features music by the Willmar Band and addresses on women’s topics.
