Splendid pipe organ at the Free Church dedication

The Lutheran Free Church unveiled a new pipe organ with a Thursday public concert led by Prof. F Melius Christiansen of St Olaf College. The eight octave instrument features 701 pipes and Kilgan manufacture, costing about 2000 dollars with all funds raised.

Pioneer educator G A Birch dies in Washington

G A Birch former Kandiyohi County superintendent of schools, editor and postmaster of Willmar, died in Valley Washington Saturday afternoon September 25 at 2 30 due to cancer. He left Spokane June 12 underwent piles surgery by Dr Cartwright and spent summer in a mountain cabin with his wife and daughter Gladys Funeral held September 26 Born October 15 1856 in Southampton England emigrated to Canada then Minnesota where he shaped Kandiyohi schools through reforms and institute work Also served on Willmar Board of Education 1883 1899 and later as postmaster and Argus editor His death is mourned by Willmar friends and family.

Local man Birch ties life to Mary Cox and Julia Noyes

The obituary notes a man married in 1882 to Mary M. Cox with two deceased children Frances and Allyn, then wed 1889 to Julia M. Noyes of St Cloud. He leaves daughter Gladys Willmarine born in the city, and he belonged to the Episcopal church, was a Knight Templar, Elks, Woodmen, Knights of the Maccabees, and vice president of the Old Settlers Association.

Pioneer Woman Mrs Andrew Johnson Kent Dies in Willmar

Mrs Elna Kent born 1848 in Sweden died Sept 30 after twelve days illness from peritonitis. She married Andrew Johnson Kent in 1869 and they settled in Kandiyohi and Willmar, where they lived forty‑five years. Funeral Oct 4 at Baptist Church. Interment Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers named. Further notes mention relatives and local events.

Grand jury brings three indictments in Minnesota case

The fall term of District Court is in session with seven civil and three criminal cases. Bergeson vs Halvorson resolved by jury for $525 promissory note. Several cases continued or dismissed. Grand Jury indicted James Minardo for shooting, John Gaasterland charged with liquor sales. Lawson of New London presided as foreman with Grue as secretary.

Willmar Board of Education Meets in October 1915

The Willmar Minnesota School District No. 47 held a regular board meeting October 4 1915 at 7 30 pm in the high school office with all members present. Minutes of prior meetings were approved and bills audited by the Finance Committee and ordered paid including numerous publishers suppliers and labor charges for books repairs and school supplies.

Young Man Killed On Repair Track

Arnold Howell twenty two year old son of Mr and Mrs Henry Howell of the city died in an accident on the east end of the local yards this morning about seven fifteen. He was passing between two cars on the repair track when a switch engine closed the gap catching him between drawbars. He was rushed to the depot and hospital but died before arrival. An investigation is in progress to determine fault.
