Kandiyohi County Farm Bureau elects township officers

Kandiyohi County Farm Bureau units at the Courthouse elected A H Vick Lake Lillian as president C A Geer Colfax as vice president Jacob Poelstra Holland Twp as secretary and treasurer A three member executive committee was formed John Swenson St Johns Robert Thomson Willmar and C J Swenson Atwater Rt 3. The body authorized county agent cooperation and blue sky inquiries on stock and sales proposals and endorsed a plan for the Duluth to ocean waterway record to the state meeting in St Paul on Oct 7. Members were urged to join or pay for services when Farm Bureau funds are used.

Vegetable Firm Opens Store on Pacific Avenue

The C. P. Madsen & Company opens a vegetable store at the former A. R. Brown location on Third Street West and Pacific Avenue. C. P. Madsen aided by N. P. Mikkelson will run the business with a full stock of vegetables, potatoes, and apples, leasing the quarters from H. L. Larson of Rosendale.

Willmar Surgeons Earn High Honors as Fellows

Two Willmar physicians Dr. B. J. Branton and Dr. P. C. Davison are named Fellows in the American College of Surgeons for general surgery and eye ear nose and throat work. The investiture will occur in Philadelphia on Oct 28 with both expected to be away a week for an Eastern trip. The issue also lists criminal cases reviewed by the Grand Jury including Arthur Helmer Ray Parker William Zieman and Leo Gannon. Helmer and Parker face felonies Zieman liquor selling and Gannon for the teasimortatia of the same into the Ys.

Fire Prevention Order Issued by Willmar Committee

The Willmar Fire Prevention Committee and the State Fire Marshal urge owners of vacant and other lots to burn all weeds and dry grass by October 25. Premises with basements and combustible rubble must be cleaned to cut fire risk. Dated Willmar Minnesota October 3, 1921.

Buggy Meets Ford Car In Accident Saturday Night

Four young people in a new Ford collided with a horse drawn buggy near Pennock and Kerkhoven Saturday about eleven. The buggy shafts broke, releasing the horse which fled home. The Ford overturned onto its side, throwing occupants onto the road. Stella Croonquist sustained a severe head wound from a broken windshield. she was treated in Willmar. Damages to the car were about $50.

Horse Races and Fireworks Set for Oct 14 at County Fair

Races postponed by weather will occur Friday Oct 14 with 20 entries. Events include harness and running races for county fair fundraiser. Willmar Band plays music at the grounds with 50 cent admission and 25 cents to grandstand. Fireworks begin at 8 pm, amount matching last evening, followed by a dance in the auditorium after the display.

District Convention Attendee Count and Clergy

The Christian Endeavor Society district convention met at Litch field last Friday and Saturday and continued Sunday with about 200 in attendance. Eight individuals pledged ministry and missionary work while no officers were elected. J. H. McCullough spoke on loyalty to the church, Barbara Williams led devotional and quiet hour exercises. RETURNS FROM IOWA J W Witham of Spicer, the Cornfield Philosopher, reports dissatisfaction with the Cummings Esch railroad law and high rates, predicting government ownership as the transport solution and a political upheaval next fall. He is available to speak at farmer gatherings and is writing a book on fifty years of labor rights and farming.

Mahoney Found Guilty in Bride Murder Trial

James E. Mahoney was found guilty of first degree murder in Seattle for the killing of his aged wealthy wife Kate Mahoney and was sentenced to death. Witness Gus Johnston, a Wilmar resident, offered testimony at the trial. The case is described as one of the Pacific coast's most sensational crimes.

Mr and Mrs J G Gilbert of Minneapolis who ran the Green Lake Country Club at Spicer during the summer depart home. They express appreciation for the kindness shown by local residents and plan to return next summer.

Community Thrift Day Draws Crowd and Big Prizes

The September Community Thrift Day attracted a large crowd with 16,000 items given away by merchants. Prizes included a Duroc Jersey pig won by Charles Isaacson and a series of cash and goods won by residents such as Clarence Granocki, Kenneth Gates, Mrs. Thrond Alvig, and Mrs. J A McElhaney, while several numbers remained unclaimed prompting additional drawings.

Extended Evanglist Rev Ost to Stay One More Week

The Swedish Mission church extends Rev A B Ost revival through another week after two weeks of services. Ost has seen success and aims to build on it with continued meetings. Yankees Trim Giants 3-0 In Opening Game At Polo Grounds

The New York Yankees defeated the Giants 3 to 0 in the opener at the Polo Grounds. Carl Mays and Schang starred for the Yankees while Douglas and Snider pitched for the Giants. Evangelistic Campaign Led by Dr Frank Houser Opens

Dr Frank Houser pastor of First Baptist church at Fetanports is engaged by the Swedish Baptist church to conduct a three week evangelistic campaign starting Thursday evening Oct 13. Meetings occur each evening except Saturdays. Houser has addressed audiences nationwide including Alaska and has fourteen years in evangelistic work and ten years in charge of congregations.

Brother Peter Fridland Dies After Long Illness

Peter Fridland of Sauk Centre died at age 60 from stomach cancer that spread, relief to sufferer. Brother Lewis Fridland, a builder in this city, reported the death by telegram Monday morning. He is survived by his wife and others as the Fridland brothers prepared to leave for Sauk Centre.

Two County Roads Are Established

The Board of County Commission convened at the courthouse to consider road petitions and ditch cases. County Road No 17 through Rosenville and Irving townships was established, and County Road No 26 through Whitefield township was approved. A bearing on tile delivery for County Kitchen Nos 46 47 and 50 was completed. Engineer Wadell will work with the state to survey these routes, as requested by the county. The petition for uniform water height in Lake Wegonga was denied.

Farmer Has Close Call in Runaway near Wheatfield

John P. Johnson, a Whiefield resident, narrowly escaped injury when his wagon horses bolted after a wheel broke a doubletree on Fath Street. He was dragged, struck the ground, treated at Wilmar Clinic with bruises, then taken to his brother Ami Johnson’s home, and expected to go home soon.

Demented man Gustafson ends life on farm barn

Gustafson, 26, a farmer three miles northeast of the city, died by shotgun self harm in a barn on his farm. Officials cite ill health and family troubles as factors. He recently moved from Dinols and had shown signs of mental strain. Rochester physicians had advised he was in good condition months before.
