Twelfth Judicial District Court opens term in Kandiyohi

The Twelfth Judicial District Court in Kandiyohi County opened its session with Judge Richard T. Daly presiding. 17 naturalization applications were reviewed with 10 granted. A grand jury was sworn and the first cases, including E. J. McNulty vs W. J. Ruddy, were listed along with an extensive civil and tax docket and a roster of grand jurors.

Erickson & Erickson Take Over Paul Hedin Building

After purchasing the Paul Hedin building on Litchfield Avenue, Erickson & Erickson plan to occupy next week. The new, redecorated structure features a plate glass front, attractive entrance, and 25 by 50 foot dimensions. The second story will serve as a salesroom with three rooms, while the large basement stores stock. total improvements near 1500 dollars, with remodeling by Pacific Sash and Door and painting by Alfred Bergeson. The deal was for 9000 dollars, and G. A. Erickson will run an office on the second floor with a tailor partner occupying space upstairs.

East Central Star School Of Instruction At Mason Temple

The 15th District East ern Star School of Instruction gathers Friday at the Mason Temple with about 60 visitors from Benson Raymond and Atwater. Willmar hosts as Mrs C E Anderson leads preparations, 3:30 pm session, 6 pm banquet, 8 pm evening meet. Grand officials present include Hattie Madson Ralph Thornton Minnie Paine Claude Hamilton. Also Hildar Hoaglund to serve on a federal petit jury in Minneapolis.

May Revive Chorus of Willmar Choral Society

A special committee from each city church will meet to decide the future work of the Willmar Choral Society. The panel will determine whether to continue the choir’s activities this fall.

Sunday School Program at Dist 64 Schoolhouse

Bright Corner Sunday school will present a program in the District 64 schoolhouse Friday evening September 6 at 8:15. The program features Bible reading prayer recitations solos and duets and invites all to attend.

Railroad Motor Bus Tested at Willmar

The Morris Browns Valley Branch line vehicle was tested in Willmar on Sunday with heavier wheels. It pulled a 26 ton railroad coach at speed and kept moving brakes applied. The 60 horsepower motor powers 45 to 50 mph, supplies 12 volt lighting, and runs the generator. Capacity 46 passengers, 50 gallon gas, two transmissions, six forward speeds. Fire department responds to second oil stove blaze at Ostlund home

Saturday at 11 40 a.m. the fire department answered an alarm at 402 Litchfield Avenue East. An explosion from a kerosene stove started the fire which spread to wall boards. Damage was slight. this marks the fourth call in ten days and recalls a prior gasoline stove fire at the fair grounds eating house.

Four Young Folks Hike From Willmar to Los Angeles

Four young travelers led by Regnar Chyden with the Misses Nora Thyden Gertrude Thyden and Mildred Benedict began Monday morning from Willmar at 5:30 toward Raymond. They plan to walk the route via Denver and the Santa Fe, enduring barren stretches where no lodging is available, and will send word to the Tribune from each point along their journey.

Nine Indictments Reported by Grand Jury Foreman

The Grand Jury led by foreman August Skattos announced nine indictments to Clerk of Court Ed Sanderson, who presented them to the Court at 10:30 AM. The panel also offered three recommendations urging jail and courthouse improvements including better feeding facilities and a vault room. Henry Flaxbarth returned to Hackensack after visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Flaxbarth.

Ten Applicants Become Citizens at Minnesota Court

At the October term opening of the Twelfth Judicial District ten applicants received final citizenship papers in St. Paul led by Chief Naturalization Officer Harry Addelson. Judge Daly presided. several cases were dismissed or continued to March. the new citizens include Olaus O. Stensrud Carl August Engstrom Axel F Linden Leo Lundblad Wilhelm Mernertu and others from Norway Sweden and Greece. A silk 8 by 12 inch flag was given to each recipient by the American Legion Auxiliary.

Horseshoe Tournament Postponed to October

Teachers Institute to Be Held in Willmar

Rural and semi-graded school teachers from Kandiyohi county will gather at the courthouse in Willmar starting October 19. All teachers are expected to attend and lodging will be needed for many. Willmar residents are asked to notify the county superintendent with available rooms and rates.

School Inspector Miss Anna Swenson Tours Kandiyohi County

Miss Anna Swenson rural school inspector for the state Department of Education visited Kandiyohi county last week in a tour of inspection. She reported the rural schools in very good condition and praised the county superintendent for notable work. Swenson is regarded as a leading educator in the state and former county superintendent.

Accident narrowly avoided at Kandiyohi station track

A Kandiyohi farm hand guiding a grain team and wagon moved off the Great Northern track just as a fast train passed. The boy acted frantically to back the load away, saving a potential tragedy though the wagon suffered damage. Spectators breathed relief as the horses cleared the rails.

Governor Preus Visits Willmar for Dairy Show Lunch

Governor J A Q Preus and his party stopped at the Merchants Hotel in Willmar for lunch on Friday. Attendees included C W Odell P B Hong C R Baker and A A Anderson. The governor and entourage were en route to Kerkhoven to attend the Dairy Show where he addressed a large gathering as Willmar residents also traveled to Kerkhoven for the event.

New Management at Commercial Willmar Hotel

Mr August Miller of Barrett Minnesota took charge of the Commercial Hotel in Willmar on October 1. He leased the building for five years with an option for five more and will likely move his family to Willmar next spring. Mrs Rodney, long time operator, steps back as Miller intends to maintain regular boarders and open the dining hall with Sunday specials.

Q Z Johnston returned from Des Moines where he attended the Grand Encampment of the G A R with over 15000 veterans present and marching in the parade. He also joined the National Drum Corps and visited relatives in La Porte and Waterloo.
