District Court in Session Opens at Willmar With Civil Docket
The October term of the District Court opened at Willmar with fourteen civil cases listed. Trials set include jury actions against C. H. Locken, L. C. Thorpe trustee, and Porter, plus court trials for several others. The grand jury convened, electing William Knott as foreman, and one indictment for assault in the second degree was public by nightfall.

Monday Afternoon Club Elects Officers and Sets Year
The first regular meeting of the Monday Afternoon Club was held at Mrs. H. Gates’s home. Mrs. Gates was elected Vice President for the year and Mrs. J. J. R. Petersen became Secretary. The course will be The History of Minnesota in three centuries with chapter reviews by Mrs. Wiggins and Mrs. Tallman. The magazine reporter is Mrs. Moore. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Hanscom’s home on October 16.

Early settler John P. Thompson dies at 82 in New London
John P. Thompson a Nest Lake pioneer and fifty-niner ages 82 died at his New London home last Thursday. Funeral held Saturday at Swedish Lebanon Church where he was a charter member for 52 years. Born September 9 1829 in Dursé parish Sweden he came to America in 1850 with his family settling first at Pine Lake Waukesha County.

Thompson Pioneer Passes After Long New London Life
Thomas Thompson, an early New London township resident, died after a long life of pioneering across Wisconsin Minnesota and New London. He moved with his family from Blue Earth to Monongalia county, endured the 1862 Indian uprising, served as township supervisor and school treasurer, and left a large family of five children eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The funeral guests included his brother Thomas arriving two days before death.

Chas V. Johnson visited the city on Monday. Several residents hosted guests and attended gatherings including Miss Ethel Smith with the Hooligans, Miss Marie Nelson with the Sewing Club, and many neighbors visiting relatives across town. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Bonham last Tuesday. Various residents traveled to Chicago, Tracy Minn., Hancock, Ishpeming, and Los Angeles for business and visits. The Nelson Music Co. will move to Lewis Block on 105th street, and numerous small events, dinners, and church activities marked the week. Mr. Hans Grotvet, a Granite Falls settler, returned home after visiting old friends.
