Thirty Nine Recruits Ordered to Camp Dodge Next Week

County Auditor Samuel Nelson announced an order for thirty nine new recruits to report to leave for Camp Dodge between October 7 and 15. The local military board has not yet finalized their destination. Several earlier recruits excused for illness may be able to go, and district board reports on the last one hundred men are still pending. Prudent B. Menard of the Marshall News-Messenger notes a call and that he has enlisted in Battery D, Marshall, with plans to depart for Deming New Mexico soon.

Death of Peter Nyberg One Year Ill in Willmar Area

Peter Nyberg 82 died Monday after a yearlong illness. Born April 18 1835 in Lundby for samling Skaraborgslin Véstergot land Sweden he immigrated 1892 to Winthrop and moved to Willmar in 1911. Survived by wife Johanna four sons Ludvie August Frank Alfred and two daughters Ida Ander and Johanna Holnquist. Funeral Thursday at 2 30 from Swedish Mission church Rev G N Tegnell officiating. pallbearers listed.

Misses Attend Swedish Mission Convention At Palmyra

Miss Esther Larson Adeline Sunberg Esther Nicholson Helen Hoglund and Olga Olson join Messrs Avid Hoglund Einar Brogren and Hildar Hoaglund for a trip to Palmyra eleven miles southeast of Bird Island last Sunday for the Willmar District Young People's Convention of the Swedish Mission church. Rev G N Tegnell and Lewis Hedlund attended Saturday. V F F Club hosted Miss Martina Berg’s send off at Myrtle Lundquist home with sewing music and luncheon for Edna Sanderson Mabel Nelson Ruth Norman and Amy Strand attendees.

Witness in Robbery Case Returns from Minneapolis

Peter Kopman of Lake Lillian returned Tuesday from Minneapolis where he spent ten days as a witness in a robbery case. He witnessed the arrest of a thief who took two hundred dollars worth of material from Andrew Hanson a tailor. The robber a tailor received two and a half years in the State penitentiary. Altrurians Society will meet at James Sanderson home next Monday evening October 8.

Camp Dodge notes from Kandiyohi county boys return home

Kandiyohi county contigent from Willmar reached Camp Dodge Iowa on Sept 30 after joining a parade with other state contingents. The letter details barracks, meals, health, drill, and leisure, plus upcoming draft movements and plans to ship to France in March. It lists unit assignments, Y M C A activities, and notes on discipline and visitors.

Mrs Ivan svanson of cars street south celebrated her birthday with about ten lady friends last Wednesday afternoon. The group enjoyed an afternoon of pleasant sociability and a delicious luncheon. Mrs Johnson received several pretty and useful gifts.

City clubs unite to present a five number lyceum course led by Commercial Club Cosmos and other groups. Chicago Operatic Company opens at Seminary Hall Oct 11 with five top artists. Ladies' Guild to Meet at Guild Hall Friday Afternoon

District Court Opens Fall Term with Notable Indictments

The district court opened with Judge Quale presiding. Wm Peterson vs Dr B J Branton, a damage suit, enters second hearing after a prior verdict of 4000 was overturned by the state supreme court. Jury empanelment stretched over Monday and Tuesday with a special venire drawn from northern county. Judge Daly of Renville now conducts the trial. Indictments: A L Peterson of Atwater charged with manslaughter in the second degree, plea not guilty. Charles Smith charged with robbery in the first degree, plea not guilty, trial set for Monday. Attorneys: E W Campbell of Litchfield for Peterson, Stanford of Willmar and Sullivan of St Cloud for Smith. Edmund Backlund of Kandiyah! attended on Monday.
