County Fair Promises Prompt Prize Payments and Access

Premiums will be paid this week for county fair prizes with checks mailed to winners. Secretary W C Johnson urges claimants to contact him immediately to correct any misakes. The Willmar Tribune will publish a prizewinners list as space allows. Sweepstakes winner Preter Anderson, mail carrier on route 4, took top prize. he also placed second in a bushel of White Dent corn. Dreamland theatre gains a new machine operator William Sletten, brother Hol Sletten resigns to run a bakery he bought last week.

Willmar Students Enter State University in Large Numbers

Willmar is well represented by many young men entering the state university this year. American Legion Post Organized in Willmar

An American Legion post named Austin F. Hanscom Post was organized in Willmar with about fifty World War veterans at the courthouse. Post 167 will meet monthly at the Odd Fellows hall, with officers Blomquist, Wadell, Stenson, and Tallakson leading. The executive committee includes several local veterans, and membership signups before November 11 will earn charter status. The next meeting is Wednesday Oct 8 at 7 30 p m, with a social hour after.

Storm Passes Over County Storms Across Township Unusually Severe

A south to northeast storm brought heavy hail and strong winds across the county. Reports from Raymond Eagle Lake and Spicer noted large hail, downed trees and poles, and damage along state road and at the State Farm boat house. Hail up to eight inches in circumference and three inches deep on the ground were reported near Nest Lake. A driver had to control a cattle rack through dark, stormy woods as hail ceased. The storm caused damage to buildings, including a Nest Lake schoolhouse window and car damage from hailstone impacts.

Sibley Park Picnic Amid Mist and Rain Draws Big Crowd

In spite of threatening weather the Indian Summer picnic at Mount Tom drew about 1500 visitors from across the region. Speakers included W E Lane Peter Broberg Senator P A Gand and Rep John Wicklund. The Mynongalia Club hosted the event with hot coffee and lunches as a park trail to the lake was opened.

Drug Business Changes Hands In Willmar

Ed Mossberg sells his Willmar drug business to Swan B Carlson. Carlson, veteran Willmar druggist with 38 years in the field, will run C B Carlson & Son with his son Arthur. Mossberg plans a move to southern California. Also reported, Carpenters and Joiners union forms in Carlson Hall with 22 members, temporary officers E W Soderlund and F E Holmberg, and G T Wingberg of the Minnesota State Federation of Labor present.

Majestic Theatre Changes Hands in Willmar

Mark Carey sold the Majestic theatre business to R W Wigley of Mankato who took charge today. Wigley, a WWI veteran, served 18 months overseas, with Hank Cutter continuing as machine operator. Carey may remain in Willmar. Also reported are local residence sales, Panama veteran Feleen Back, University instructor George Swenson, 15 gilts sold for 4500 dollars, Iowa visitors, a confectionery sale, Lois Sanden leaving for Minneapolis, and Northfield banning cigarette licenses.

Death in New Mexico and other local notices

Death occurred Monday night in New Mexico after a Bellview Minnesota origin, survived by wife and two children. Funeral at C. T. French's chapel with Rev. A. M. Knudson. body to Minnesota for burial. Nov 22 marks thirteen years since marriage to Olga Lindhalm, widow with two children Inez and Clifford. Also, Veterans alderman resigns. special election planned Nov 4 in Fourth Ward. Lieut Eugene Lunstead arrived in New York from overseas aboard the Agamemnon.

Grand jury to convene Monday in historic county session

The fall term of the district court opens next Monday with the county’s first grand jury. It will hear two homicide cases and other matters including judicial ditch appeals from Stearns Kandiyohi and Meeker counties. Tax cases, a Great Northern damage suit, and a four-car Buick shipment from Flint also appear in the docket.
