Gertrude Person Swedish immigrant and devoted wife dies

Gertrude Person widow of John Person died November 28 after a brief illness with pneumonia. A lifelong Christian, she organized the Swedish Bethel church in Willmar in 1891 and remained a faithful member. Born in Arrie Malméhuslin Sweden, she came to America in 1890 and lived a devoted life. Her husband and children mourn her passing as they await reunion.

Man Injured in Oil Cap Accident on Eastland Farm

C H Lunstead was drilling on the A P Eastland farm in Rose land town when his wet jacket snagged on a fly wheel shaft. He was tossed and his clothes torn before he could escape, suffering multiple injuries including a cracked shoulder blade and several broken ribs. He lies in Willmar hospital with a cast planned for today and a recovery of about three weeks. His family and friends express relief at his survival. A funeral is noted for Mrs Pergon and children from Duluth, with Rev G Peterson officiating at Fairview cemetery. Also included is a reader letter critiquing Congressman Volstead and a call for a resignation and shift to a majority-party representative.

Willmar Beats Alumni 10 to 0 in Thanksgiving Football

The Willmar high school team overwhelmed the alumni 10 to 0 on Thanksgiving day, closing a veteran season with another scalp. Also noted are upcoming annual sales and suppers by local church groups including Carlson's hall events on December 6, and a Presbyterian church chicken pie supper.

Sophomore close play first act to be rehearsed Tuesday evening. Report cards issued Tuesday afternoon. Literary program postponed to a week from Friday to fit class play. Seventh District Legislators Meet for Speakership Vote

Seven of ten Seventh District Republicans met Monday to discuss the speakership and other matters. They recommended L. C. Spooner of Morris for speaker, with J. A. Burnquist as second choice. Oscar Arneson was endorsed for chief clerk. A Willmar banquet followed the session where Spooner urged reapportionment, good roads, agricultural education funding, university support, fair taxation, and efficient administration.

History of Red Cross Seals and Tuberculosis Stamps

Originating as charity stamps for Soldiers' relief in Boston 1862, Red Cross Seals spread worldwide. Norway Sweden and others led early anti tuberculosis drives, Delaware and Red Cross joining to issue a TB stamp. US sale raised $185,000 in 1908 and nearly doubled in 1909, with comprehensive organizing in 1910 and a goal of one million for TB work. 474 percent of Willmar seals proceeds to local work.

Elkjer to Retire From Willmar Photo Studio

The Tribune reports Erick Elkjer will retire from his Willmar photography studio on January 15, 1911. He has earned many friends through his artistry and excellent work, with patrons likely to follow him if he locates elsewhere.
