Willmar residents observe Thanksgiving with business closures and a half day at the post office while banks and courts stay shut. The article notes church services, family reunions, charity to the needy, and local weddings and travels among Mamre residents including Frykman, Rodman, and Anderson families, plus community notices and a Knights of Pythias update.
Series of four day gospel meetings in the Lutheran Free church ended Friday after sessions from 10 to 12, 2 to 4, and evening services. Speakers included E Aas, J Samuelson, G Paterson, A Helland and S Sorenson from Christian Minnesota and Minneapolis. Visitors and local pastors attended as goal was Bible questions and Matt 11 28 30 with Augsburg Seminary fund appeals.
About fifty church members visited Mr. Peter Lundberg at his home to honor his year of service guiding the Swedish Lutheran church building project. Rev. Gustaf Peterson presented a gold headed cane with an engraved message. Guests, including Mrs. Lundberg, shared goodwill and refreshments before departing. Snowflake, Minn.
Town residents report the post office will be ready to move in on Monday with Mr Portinga resuming duties as postmaster. Mrs Knott has returned home Monday and Mr Stob moved his family into the rooms. He rented the old store for storage or use if the store is crowded. Decker from Roseland is staying with her aunt Mrs Stob. Miss Lizzie Potts visited her sister last week. Miss Finseth spent Sunday with Miss Hanson.
District court jur y awarded Mary Kennedy one thousand four hundred twenty five dollars after she slipped on a defective sidewalk last May. She was left crippled by the injuries and notes several other defective sidewalks in Willmar that warrant attention to avoid future suits.
The Lutheran Synod church announces Thanksgiving Day services. Morning Norwegian services to be followed by an English service at 7 20 in the Seminary Hall. Prof E Hure of Luther Seminary at Hualioe will speak at both services. Collections will be taken for the mission.
Mrs Nellis Stansberry travels to Litchfield to attend the wedding of her cousin Miss Catherine May Leslie to Mr Alfred Roy Trader at Trinity church this evening. Leslie has many friends in the city who will wish the couple a happy union. Messrs M H Tew and F F Nelson of the Aaes Co started Monday on the Sioux Falls Line for the season.
The week featured a wedding at SM Matison’s home on November 13 at 3:00 performed by Rev. 650 Schoberg. Guests traveled from Minnesota and nearby towns, with many local residents attending gatherings and visiting relatives in the area.
Kandiyahi residents report visits to Pennock Atwater and Willmar, with a range of social events and entertainment planned. Butter fat prices paid by the creamery for October are noted, while street improvement talks focus on gravel access and city gravel pits. A rumor about Supt Egan’s shooting mystery is mentioned along with a Salvation Army welcome meeting and improvements at B T Otos shop.
A late night disturbance near Irving brought three youths Loyal Clark Leo Van Vorst and Wm Coons to Justice Swenson demanding immediate trial after a window bullet wounded Nels Johnsons wife. The case, postponed for venue and later dismissed on lack of action, highlights a tense rural incident with local officials and a community uproar.
Final probate orders approved this week. In the Forsberg estate 20 acres in Lakes Elizabeth are decreed to the mother. In the Borg estate the Little Kandiyah Lake islands pass to the widow for one third with the remainder split among a son and three daughters. The Palace bargain store mill plans to reopen next Monday.
Thanksgiving services are planned at the Swedish Lutheran church and Swedish Mission church. The Black Bay Mining Company holds its annual stockholders meeting at Bonde’s Hall Monday evening. Various local figures attend meetings, real estate purchases, and upcoming marriages are noted, including Edwin F. Fink and Rhoda Swenson’s Friday wedding at the bride’s home.
