Red Cross Tag Day Saturday Promises Citywide Giving

Fifteen girls will canvass the city Saturday to ensure everyone can donate to the Red Cross. Fifteen local businesses will award prizes to top fundraisers, with gifts ranging from a $5 savings book to a silver spoon and a purse. Humoresque Shown At Majestic This Week

Supper and Sale at Carlson Bros Hall November 30

A supper and sale will be held at Carlson Bros Hall on Tuesday November 30 starting at 5 30 p m with supper priced at 40c and a lunch of coffee cake and sandwiches for 15c. Menu includes scalloped potatoes meat balls cabbage salad pickles bread and butter apple pie and coffee. A candy sale and fancy articles sale will follow in the afternoon and evening. Elks lodge opens club rooms to ladies of Elk families Wednesdays 2 to 6 for social purposes.

County Duroc Association Reviews Year’s Work

Kandiyohi County Duroc Breeders Association reports strong year with boys and girls in the low and litter club. Fourteen bred gifts placed, thirteen purchased by the association, broad distribution of animals throughout the county. A new hog barn at the Fair Grounds aided growth. Meeting set for November 27 1920 at the Court House to plan next year and urge all breeders to attend.

New Orchestra for Willmar forms with Star Concert Orchestra

A new Star Concert Orchestra has been formed in Willmar directed by Prof. N. B. Swalin. Rehearsals set for Friday at the Magnet Inn with a concert planned soon featuring a noted soloist. Instrumentation lists Swalin and local musicians across strings winds and keyboard.

Penny Carnival A Howling Success At High School

A High School gym Penny Carnival drew a large crowd with varied acts from fortune telling to animal specimens. Notable draws included a boxing exhibition by Shorty Thornon and Fatty Nickelson. Proceeds of 184.88 will fund gym curtains and scenery.

Grace family attends Minnesota Michigan game

Mr and Mrs Charles T Grace and son Leslie returned Saturday evening from Minneapolis where they attended the Minnesota Michigan football game won by Minnesota 3 to 0. Grace also attended the State Convention of the Auxiliary of the American Legion at the Curtiea Hotel the latter part of the week.

Veteran Drowns at Lake Lillian as Club Plans Tree

Freeman Stafford of Lake Lillian township was drowned Monday night after stepping onto the lake ice toward the center. His cries were heard at the Melbye home and aids were summoned. The Women’s Civic Club held a meeting in the Council Chamber with speaker Mr Russell Spicer addressing youth needs and community house value. The American Legion presented a plan for a Community Christmas Tree, which received strong support and committees were named for gifts, decorations and solicitation. A Civic Club member will be on Tuesday December 2nd in the Council Chambers.

Freeman Stafford Dies in Local Drowning Tragedy

Kandiyohi County man Freeman Stafford, drafted first in Washington, drowned after returning from World War I service. Born February 23 1896 in Greenwood Wisconsin he lived with uncle Ole Salmonson in Lake Lillian township. Funeral date pending at Tromso Lutheran Free Church with Rev. Arntzen officiating.

Fire destroys barn at Primm Schoolhouse district 20

Last Sunday night between midnight and early morning the barn at Primm Schoolhouse district 20 burned. The 32 by 56 foot structure stood near a Ford car and a mortgage insurance barn. A new structure will be erected at once.

First Winter Band Concert in Willmar Sunday

Willmar municipal band opens the winter season with a concert next Sunday featuring sacred and classical music. Admission is fifty cents. proceeds support the band amid hopes it will survive the winter and enable more free concerts next summer.
