Kandiyohi county raises record War Fund total

Kandiyohi county residents rallied to support the YMCA War Fund, collecting 13871.95 dollars, surpassing the 9000 dollar county quota and over performing in Willmar city and surrounding townships. Willmar led in township contributions with Whitefield close behind. Archander and Harrison also ranked highly. Atwater headed the villages, followed by New London. The document lists the officers' compiled totals as of morning.

About seventy five people from Spicer New London Burs t ank and Hawick congregations gathered at Rev T M Findleys residence near Spicer on Monday afternoon November 19 A Mrs George Shumaker from Colfax was baptized in Green Lake The gathering included social time and lunch served by the ladies Arthur T Otos and Bernice Hodgdon were married in Minneapolis and will reside there Willmar area residents and district campaign efforts were noted with funds raised for the Y M C A and soldiers and marines support totaling 13 871 98 across the Fourth District.

Kandiyohi Loses Two Pioneers in Weekend Deaths

Two Kandiyohi pioneers died last Saturday evening with funerals set for this afternoon at Oak Park and Tripolis. Carl Fredrick Anderson, 76, long time Kandiyohi resident, born in Sweden, survived by eight children and twenty eight grandchildren, with a sister in Sweden. Frank Emil Broman, born in Sweden 1864, died at Lake Kasota after abdominal illness, leaving a long rural life in Kandiyohi and a respected standing in the community.

Stubborn Prairie Fire on Hawk Creek Farm

A rumor of a barn fire at John Swenson’s Hawk Creek Farm spread Monday afternoon. It proved false. the fire started while Swenson burned weeds with a tractor, burning about six acres of meadow. Neighbors helped extinguish it. hay valued at hundreds of dollars was at risk but nothing of value was lost. J T Isaacson reports one carload of hogs shipped for $4,188.64, a large check for South St. Paul. The Willing Workers of the Swedish Mission church plan a bazaar and supper at Carlson Hall on Friday November 30 with a sale of fancy articles and a 5 PM supper.

Annual Turkey Day clash stars high school and alumni

Plans for the annual Thanksgiving game between the high school and alumni football teams are under way on the local gridiron. The HS backfield will feature Kleye Swenson Olson and Hegness, with Lundquist and Peterson out. The alumni aim to extend last year’s victory and draw a large crowd for a home-team showdown.

Big Game Hunters Licenses Issued In County

Five big game hunting licenses were issued in ten days at the County Auditor's office. Recipients include Joe S. Nelson of Paynesville Reinhold Logatrom of Minneapolis Oscar B. Forsman Route 3 Willmar H Wessenmoe of Willmar and F E Poortinga of Willmar. Lawrence Anderson, who fractured his left leg last July, returned home after a hospital stay in Paynesville following the accident.

Boys Admit Plot to Wreck Train for Fun

Roy Thompson seven and Blaine Roach confessed to officers after being caught about a mile from the scene of an attempted wreck on Passenger Train No. 13 east of the city. They piled iron, rocks and wood on the track. the pilot was damaged and the air hose torn. Police and Trainmaster Ball chased and captured them. they said they did it for fun.
