Fifty Deer Hunters From Kandiyohi County

County Auditor Samuel Nelson has issued 69 licenses for deer hunting this morning, far above last year’s 22. The list names numerous residents from Willmar and nearby routes, including Lewis Johnson, Melvin Rout, J Melvitt Johnson, Robert Johnson, Oscar Parsons, W F Kelly, A Halvueson, and many others across Kandiyohi, Willmar routes, Pennock, Kerkhoven, New London, and surrounding areas.

Local Legion Post Receives Banner Gift at Meeting

The American Legion in Willmar, with 275 members, held a Wednesday meeting at Odd Fellows Hall. Judge T C Gilbert delivered an eloquent address and presented the post with a banner donated by the Hanscom family in honor of Austin F Hanscom. The post’s coffee fundraiser netted about 40, and the banner is on exhibit at Peterson & Wellin.

Juvenile Band To Be Organized In Willmar

Leader C. M. Elzea announces a juvenile band in Willmar urging boys with musical ability to report to the City Hall Wednesday at 7 for details. Parents are encouraged to support their sons by providing instruments and joining the effort, promoting good training and keeping youth out of mischief.

Atwater Holds First American Legion Post Meeting

Atwater residents organized the Bennet G. Sametad Post of the American Legion. A. Joseph Swenson presided, with Wm Arneson as secretary. Death of Vernon Hedeen in St Paul

MrsCat Peterson of this city mourns the death of her sixteen year old brother Vernon Hedeen who died in St Paul yesterday morning of sleeping sickness. He leaves parents Alfred and Mildred Hedeen two brothers Oliver Milton and a sister Mildred in St Paul and another sister Mrs Carl Peterson of Willmar. Mrs Peterson leaves for St Paul to attend the funeral Thursday afternoon Swedish Mission Ladies Aid. The Ladies Aid of the Swedish Mission church plans a program Friday Nov 21 at 7 30 with music recitations and short speeches. Refreshments by Mrs Tegnell Admission 10c. Everyone welcome.

New Pastor for St. Mary’s Catholic Church Arrives

Rev. Father Holland becomes the new pastor of St. Mary’s in the city and St. Patrick’s in Kandiyohi. He arrived last Saturday and has begun duties. He came from Monticello where he led a five year congregation. Earlier he served as assistant pastor at Belle Plaine.

Willmar Schools report junior Red Cross drive progress and sports notes

In Willmar the Junior Red Cross drive reports four school buildings at or near full participation while Lincoln and Library lag. Weather delays hinder new heating work at the high school with a plan to finish before Christmas. The Red Cross Seal Sale runs December 1 to January 1 to support tuberculosis work. School activities include armistice day programs, a high school football season ending in Montevideo with strong scores, and student achievements at Lafayette and Garfield buildings.

Train Inspector Dies After Yard Accident at Willmar

A Great Northern yard accident at Willmar fatally injured H L Ruhn a 20 year old air brake inspector born 1889 Eden Valley. He was struck by switch engine 826 while watching a starting Sioux City freight near the sixth track. He died at Willmar Hospital at 1 pm. He leaves a wife Olga Theodore Boreen two children and many relatives. Funeral held November 17 at Eden Valley with church service and floral tributes from local groups. He was a member of the Carmens Lodge 634 Willmar.

Gasoline torch explodes burning two seining men

Frank Warren and Ed Funk of Eagle Lake seining crew were badly burned last Friday at the Willmar Vulcanizing shop when a gasoline blow torch exploded. Their clothing caught fire but they escaped burning and received treatment from local doctors before being taken to Rest Hospital for several days.

Marriage of Edward Schlager and Ruth Fjellman in Seattle

Edward Schlager of Port Townsend and Ruth Florence Estella Fjellman of Willmar wed at the Presbyterian parsonage in Seattle on November 13, 1919. The bride wore a faun colored suit and was attended by her sister Margaret Freliman. groomsman John Marcher. A wedding dinner followed at the groom’s sister home. The couple will settle at Port Townsend where Schlager farms fruit and berries. The bride, formerly a saleslady in Willmar, is noted as popular.
