Governor Hammond visits Willmar and talks on state care

Governor Hammond spent a day in Willmar visiting the State Hospital farm with Supt. Freeman. He lunched with local figures including Gov. Rice and Mayor Wellin, toured the institution, and spoke at Bethel church on state duties toward wards and dependents. He emphasized education for the blind and reform in penal systems. He stayed the night with Gov. Rice and rode the Willmar local back to St. Paul the next morning. Joe, the Book Farmer, continues this paper’s serial.

Episcopal Meeting at St Luke's Church in Minnesota

About fifty people gathered at Victor Monson’s east of city home last Tuesday for a surprise party. Guests played cards and danced, then shared refreshments and presented a purse of money before departing.

Golden Wedding Anniversary Of Lars And Sara Rasmussen

Mr and Mrs Lars Rasmussen celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at home in the First Ward on November 10 with family and friends. The Danish born couple married in 1865, later settled near Pennock then on Twelfth Street North. They have eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, with several children listed and a dinner for fifteen featuring a white cake and fifty candles. Guests gifted cash and other presents.

Halvorson Sells His Norway Lake Store to Bendixen

Lewis L. Bendixen agrees to take charge of the Norway Lake store in December after purchasing a 369 acre farm from Ben Halvorson of Norway Lake. Bendixen will auction his farm on November 23 and plans to run the store early next month. Local friends wish him success in this new venture.

State School Money Now Apportioned County Totals Released

County Treasurer N. O. Nelson received the October State School Apportionment totaling 16896.90 with per capita allotment 3.61 for 4478 local pupils. Willmar city shows 1066 pupils and 3848.28 state aid. nationwide funding totals 1,500,000 across 86 counties.

Obituary of Myrtle Akerson from Pennock and Willmar

Myrtle Akerson dies after hospital operation for ruptured appendix. Born August 19, 1903 in Willmar, daughter of C and Mrs C Akerson, moved to a Pennock-area farm as a child. Survived by parents, one brother Carl Gustaf Jr, five sisters Effie Hazel Mabel Lottie and a newborn. Funeral Friday Nov 19 at Amrelund Church with Rev C Swenson officiating.

Judicial Ditch Hearing Set for December First

The Lake Lillian ditch case, filed December 1, 1914 by H and thirty two farmers in Kandiyohi and Meeker counties, is set for a December 1 hearing. Engineer John Norgaard filed a report. total ditch cost is about 178 thousand dollars with bridges and right of way cost. Objections are due today. The hearing may appoint three viewers to decide if the project benefits the county.

Handy Lewis Motor Co Garage Adds 50 by 75 Foot Extension

Construction progresses on a one story 76 by 60 foot addition to the Handy Lewis Motor Co Garage. Work includes wall work and masons on the west wall as crews rush toward completion.
