Boat Capsizes on Ringo Lake Men Saved After Sinking Boat

Two men, Dr H F Porter and C Diffendorf, narrowly escaped drowning when their small hunting boat capsized on Ringo Lake after a gun discharge shifted weight. Rescued by Leonard Harris and others after a 30 minute ordeal, Porter exhausted but alive, both men lost their guns.

Air gun incident harms boy eye in Minnesota town

The left eye of six year old Marvin Bodum was damaged by an air gun shot from a ten year old. Surgeon Dr Wilcox removed the pellet at Willmar Hospital after emergency arrival from Minneapolis. Doctors express hope full sight remains with initial visual trouble. Red Cross and Luther League events announced in community notices with upcoming meetings and a district social for Red Cross support.

Another Pay Day for Company E at Fair Grounds

Col W Fulton inspected the local company of National Guard at the Fair Grounds Auditorium last Monday evening. The Colonel led drills and weapon movements then paid officers and men a total of 1076.00 for July August and September. This was the second payday outside the camp payments. After the drill Captain H G Young hosted Col Fulton and officers at his home before Fulton left Tuesday for Bengon.

Willmar High at St Peter in Open State Clash

Willmar High School travels Friday to meet undefeated St Peter in a key Saturday 2 30 pm football clash. Both teams boast strong records this season with St Peter 10 0 over Stillwater and others, Willmar 52 7 over Glenwood and 45 0 over Madison. Coaches McClaflin and Holcombe lead husky squads as Willmar fans plan trips.

Red Cross Roll Call Under Way In County

Solicitors roam Willmar and surrounding county during the 1922 Red Cross Roll Call urging citizens to donate. Moview screenings are planned at Dreamland and Majestic theatres during the drive with Armistice Day canvassing by Boy Scouts and praise from Samuel Gompers for Red Cross work.

Foot Crash Traps Roy Kaatz In Willmar Street Incident

Roy Kaatz a local cigarmaker was struck by a motor car on Litchfield Avenue Monday evening as heavy mist shrouded the area. He sustained multiple broken bones in the foot and was taken to Willmar Hospital. Driver Mr Healy insurance man said limited visibility caused the accident.

Selvig, Noted Willmar Fire Chief, Dies in Minneapolis

Rea C. C. Selvig, former business leader and longtime chief of the Willmar Fire Department, died at a Minneapolis hospital Sunday night at 10 25 after two years of illness and a serious operation earlier in the year.

Longtime Willmar civic leader dies after long illness

William Selvig born in 1861 in Norway died after a second operation shortly before death. He came to the U S as a child, lived in Willmar, engaged in hardware and fruit farming, and served as Willmar Fire Department chief for years. Survived by five children, six grandchildren, and siblings in Washington and California. Funeral Friday with services at his residence and Bethel Lutheran Church. City honors with store closures and flags at half mast.

Cancer Week Observed Here In Willmar

National Cancer Week is observed in Willmar with a daily window display at S. B. Carlson & Sons and a free public lecture tomorrow at 8 pm in the Masonic building basement by Dr. J. Johnson of the State University Medical Department. The national campaign, run by the American Society for the Control of Cancer, seeks to publicize early cancer signs and the need for timely treatment to cut mortality, with a goal of a ten year drive reducing deaths by 30 percent.

Redwood Falls Visits Willmar In State Championship Showdown

Redwood Falls travels to Willmar Sunday for a state championship football clash at the local ball park. Med Crose Resides Here as Rawleighs Move In

Mr and Mrs Earl Rawleigh and four children arrived last Tuesday Nov 7 at the M D Crommett place west of Spicer. They left Waggerville Alberta in June after crop failures and traveled by teams to North Dakota then Fargo before moving by auto to Willmar and Spicer. They plan to rent the Leon Crommett farm near Nest Lake for a year and have the children attend school in Spicer. Mr Rawleigh is a daughter of Leon Crommett and sister of Melvin Crommett near Twin Lakes.
