Willmar Church Chooses New Pastor Reverend J Renwick McCullough

A congregational meeting of the Willmar Presbyterian church unanimously called Reverend J Renwick McCullough of Broden to be pastor. He has accepted the call and will begin duties before the Christmas season after preaching at Willmar about a month ago. Also notes Bethel X event and local visits.

Churches in town coordinate weekly services and events

Bethel Lutheran sets sermons at 10 a m and 7 30 p m with Sunday school at 11 48 a m and forthcoming meetings for Young Peoples and Ladies Societies. Presbyterian invites all to Sunday services at 10 30 a m and 7 30 p m. Swedish Methodist plans choir organization and lectures on immersion topics. Other churches list morning and evening services with schedules and community events throughout the week.

Willmar Urged to Secure New Hotel and Census Work

Willmar Commercial Club members urged urgent hotel facilities with modern equipment, endorsing Elk’s Corner as a site to sell. A two-person ward census committee will be appointed to ensure a fair count next January. County fair grading plans were deemed impracticable due to tree loss and weather conditions.

Big Game Trip Heads to Red Top With Johnson Family

Big Game Licenses Issued and Season Dates Noted

County Auditor Samuel Nelson sues nineteen licensees for big game hunting up to noon. Licenses include names from Willmar Atwater Spicer Kandiyohi and Bird Island. Season opens November 15 and ends December 5, amended from October 10 by the last legislature.

Rev McDevitt Leaves Willmar for New Charge

Rev Cornelius McDevitt, longtime pastor of St Mary’s Catholic church in Willmar and St Patrick’s in Kandiyohi, is transferred to Maryaburi in Sueur County. He departs tomorrow for his new assignment, leaving many friends, with a successor to be decided.

Blaze Destroys Carlson Barn on Becker Avenue East

Last Saturday at six, a fire destroyed a Carlson barn at 125 Becker Avenue East. Firefighters arrived with headway but extinguished the blaze. origin uncertain, believed to be children with matches. Mrs Carlson away, Mrs Walker first to notice and summon help. The Regal car was saved. total loss a few hundred dollars with insurance.

Johnson and Johnson, local variety store operators, have set up in the vacated Lewis building. They renovated the interior, added shelves and counters, and opened a candy, stationery, popcorn, and peanut roasting section with new crockery and novelty goods arriving daily.

Bottling Works Changes Hands in Local Sale

W. C. Kemp sold the Crystal Bottling Works on Pacific avenue to E. S. Schmitz of Sioux City for 14000. Schmitz takes charge immediately. the sale covers only the business, not the building. Kemp remains owner of the building and plans to winter in Florida or California.

Returned Soldier Gustaf Hedeen Dies at Atwater

Last Friday at 8 15 a.m. Gustaf Hedeen died at his Atwater area home after a brief heart illness. Born June 6 1888 in Halsingland Sweden he immigrated with parents to Atwater as a child later moving to Conover Wisconsin. He served in World War I as corporal in Company G 356th Infantry 88th Division overseas eleven months and fought at Saint Mihiel Argonne Forest and Belleau Woods. Funeral at Swedish Lutheran Church Atwater with Rev. M Le Vander officiating. Burial in Conover Wisconsin after services.

Fireman Archie Johnson Killed at Sioux City

Archie Johnson, 23, a fireman on the Omaha Railroad out of Sioux City, was accidentally killed yesterday afternoon in Sioux City Iowa. His brother Howard Johnson received the news at eight last evening. the parents live in Sioux Falls South Dakota. Howard left for Sioux City this morning.
