Farm Short Course Games Next January

The Commercial Club of Willmar met for a business session electing two new members Prof. CE Wentsel and Dr. Lewis B. Coss. Pending plans include a farmers short course in January with topics on stock and drainage and a state carload of stock for demonstrations. Local committee members were named and prizes offered to Queen of the Benson Corn and Alfalfa Exposition contestants to encourage Kandiyohi county exhibitors. A store of community events followed including church youth group activities and a rummage sale organized by the Ladies Guild.

Young People's Convention Engages Minnesota Baptists

The Swedish Baptist Young People's Convention of Minnesota met at a local Baptist church with about seventy-five delegates from across the state. Notable visitors included Dr. Kettman of Chicago Dr. Chellberg of Minneapolis Prof. Henry Wingblad Rev. A Olson and Rev Lingren. The Bethany Male Quartet performed as the theme The Kingdom of Christ guided discussions. A Halloween party hosted at Carlson hall featured dancing bouquets refreshments and a fish pond activity.

Rev Gade resigns from Willmar Presbyterian Church

At Sunday service Rev L W Gade announced the session asked the Presbytery to dissolve his pastoral relations with the Willmar church before late December. The congregation reacts with surprise as the pastor has led strong growth and active programs. The church voted to release him to Virginia Minnesota, praising his two years of service and noting the church’s significant growth and finances. Virginia is a city of 16000 people. the manse cost 6000 to 7000.

Salem and area residents visitations and church notices

Salem and area residents shared visits last Sunday with the Carlson Olson and Magnuson households in Willmar Arcander and surrounding towns. Church services are planned with Rev A Ledell at East Salem at 10 30 and Rev O Wenstrand at 7 80. A birthday surprise honored Mrs. Christ Rasmusson with a silver berry spoon. Funeral attendees included Mrs Olson and Mrs Nelson.

Obit of Algot Peterson Harnessmaker in Willmar

The city mourns Algot Johan Peterson born August 14 1864 in Sweden who died at his home on Third Street after a brief pneumonia illness. He came to Minnesota in 1882 lived in Willmar most of his life worked for Halberg and at Great Northern before starting his own harness shop on Benson avenue. He married Elizabeth Kullander in 1901 and leaves two sons Harold and Milton, with brothers Charles and Theodore and five sisters. Funeral services were held at his residence and First M. and church with interment in the new Swedish cemetery and fire department pallbearers. The city paid respects with flags at half mast.

West Central Minnesota road show aids Kandiyohi bid

The West Central Minnesota Development Association stages a single evening campaign to rally support for candidates seeking the Corn and Alfalfa Exposition queenship in Benson November 26 to 28. At Willmar courthouse hall on Monday evening residents may join the effort. Appleton drew a larger crowd than expected in the kickoff, and Morris saw Miss Margaret Eckes of Stevens County garner over a hundred thousand votes in a crowded venue.

Community Spirit lecture and musical program in Minnesota

The leading feature is William Lloyd Davis of Madison Wisconsin, a lecturer on developing a community spirit. Grace Chadbourne and Gertrude Reeves, both of Minneapolis, are soloist and pianist. Four reels of moving pictures from West Central Minnesota are shown. Admission is fifty cents. Ida Sanderson, Kandiyah county queen candidate, receives 500 votes per ticket. Any money earned will support the farming movement. big expenses leave little or no profit expected.

Hugo Griffeth Jones born in Carnarayon North Wales on July 2 1834 died October 29 1914 aged 80 years 3 months 27 days. Immigrated to the United States at age eight settled Racine Wisconsin moved to Paynesville Minnesota 1862 enlisted 1863 married Ella Allgood October 15 1872 one son David later lived in Webster South Carolina burial at Hawick cemetery. Mrs Joe Andrews Emma Sophia Johnson born November 15 1884 Sweden died October 26 1914 at Clearwater Minnesota survived by nine of ten children four Johnson brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held in Clearwater and New London with church services and interment in the family lot.

Atwater Holds Banner In Amendments Vote

Kandiyohi County results show Atwater Village passing nine of eleven State Constitution amendments, leading county with strongest supporter tally. County as a whole split, No. 1 and No. 9 narrowly passing, while nine precincts rejected all amendments. New London Raymond and Willmar precincts varied, with several passing multiple amendments.

Court yard memorial project eyed by Old Settlers group

A committee formed by the Old Settlers Association met to plan a courthouse yard memorial honoring early county settlers. They approved starting fund solicitation in November with a goal of at least $1500, to be raised by school district units. Contributors of $1 or more receive a printed certificate, and schools donating $3 or more receive a framed certificate. Solicitor appointments will be announced next week with a fuller plan in local press.
