Minnesota B Y P U Convention to be Held at First Baptist

The Minnesota Baptist Young People's Union announces its annual convention at First Baptist Church from Friday evening, November 11, through Sunday, November 13. Notable speakers include Prof. Adolph Olson and Rev. Victor Larson with sessions led by G. E. Wallendorf and A. D. Grant. The program features devotional studies, Bible talks, workshops, business meetings, and closing sermons, aiming to inspire attendees in Christian life and service.

Wall of Building Falls in Excavation at Litchfield and Third

The west wall of the Hogland Hardware building on the corner of Litchfield Avenue and Third Street collapsed after an excavation weakened a 28 year old Boulder foundation. Paul Hedin narrowly escaped, as the wall exposed Bergan Hardware shelves and upstairs renters. The old foundation used round boulders with little plaster to hold them.

Confirmation class of twenty at Synod Lutheran church

The Synod Lutheran church held its annual confirmation last Sunday with a class of 20 boys and girls receiving diplomas. Six were confirmed in Norwegian. Willmar and the county shared the honors nearly equally. an offering was taken for the synodical budget. Diplomas went to Lawrence J. New Proprietors Take Over Cash Grocery Now Holt Swenson Co

The Cash Grocery shop owned by E. P. Bjornberg was bought Wednesday Nov 2 by Manley B. Holt and Paul Swenson. The store runs under Holt Swenson and Company with Bjornberg to receive all sale proceeds. A new Bengtson and Larson butcher shop opens in the same building, leasing space from Holt & Swenson, after years at Madrid Iowa and Kandiyohi farming.

Willmar Choral Club studies Messiah and community notices

Enthusiastic rehearsals mark the Willmar Choral Society as they work through Messiah with Axel Dahl traveling from near Berithovan. Long Lake Y P S meets Tuesdays at 8 pm at Long Lake church, and a Brotherhood gathering is planned for Nov. 14 at the Neslunds. Births, a $61.10 fine for Gilbert Torkelson, a birthday party for Olive Selin with a cake centerpiece, and a Ladies Aid sale and supper on Nov. 18 are listed among community notices.

Armistice Day Declared a Legal Holiday Nationwide

Mayor Victor E. Lawson of Willmar invites Kandiyohi County residents to observe Armistice Day with a 10:30 parade and public exercises. The American Legion plans commemorations marking the three year anniversary since World War I hostilities ended and urges suspension of business for the observance.

Former Home Guards captain Victor Klingenberg asks owners to return bugles used by the Home Guards for Armistice Day. Dowling Fund progress in Kandiyohi County drive

The Kandiyohi County Dowling Fund drive seeks 1800 with ongoing efforts. Willmar business men expected to donate 300, Civic Club women report 150, city schools 60, village reports incomplete, rural areas creditable. Women’s clubs totals 25 and 20 and 15 from Civic Monday Afternoon and Ladies White Clubs. Teachers from city grades and high schools attended Minnesota Educational Association in Minneapolis.

Willmar Delegation Leads Minnesota Presence at National Legion Meet

Thirty five Seventh District Legionaires attended the national convention in Kansas City from Oct 31 to Nov 2. Willmar sent twenty delegates the largest city delegation outside Twin Cities and Duluth. The Willmar group stayed in a sleeper car, enjoyed Kansas City's hospitality, and the event drew tens of thousands with a 50 000 marching parade and 300 000 spectators.

Willmar High to face Hancock in Armistice Day game

The Willmar High football team will play Hancock on Armistice Day Friday at 3 pm on the local grounds. Hancock, a strong foe, is expected to challenge the locals after a date change arranged by the Willmar faculty.

Series of Meetings to Discuss Home Missions

The Home Mission Society Indre' Missions Forbundet of the Norwegian Lutheran church will hold three meetings of three days each in this county. On the coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11, 13 and 13, the meetings will be in the Long church in Doyre township, on the 15, 16 and 7th at Zion church in Irving, and on the 18, 19 and 20 at Spicer. Visitors will be met at Spicer and at Willmar tomorrow and a good representative attendance is looked for. Leading attendees include Rev. B. K. Bardstad, evangelist, T. J. Oppedahl of Sacred Heart, Peder Fostervold, editor of the Society paper, and Ludvig Hope of Norway at Spicer.

More road work to help jobless on Minnesota highway

Minnesota plans a winter program to cut idleness by paving and graveling 27 miles on Minne sota trunk highway No 10 and nearby sections. About 4.5 million dollars will fund initial projects including 25 miles of paving and 274 miles of wet-surfacing with bids opening November 29. Other graded and bridge jobs follow, aided by funds to aid unemployed farmers and rettlers.

Armistice Day Observance Planned in Willmar

The Willmar city Armistice Day program includes a 10:30 parade led by the American Legion Post with veterans of Civil, Spanish, and World War I, a Red Cross tableau, and a noon ceremony. A 1:30 pm Dreamland Theatre program features band selections, recitations, addresses, and musical interludes. A coffee service and dance follow at local lodges, with emphasis on observance by ex servicemen across Kandiyohi County.
