Doctor Beard to speak at Willmar hospital meeting Thursday

Dr R O Beard of the University of Minnesota will address a Willmar and Kandiyohi County audience Thursday night on what a general hospital means for a bigger, better city. Local clergy and business leaders join Rev J N Andersen and Rev Paul Hallion in backing the hospital movement as teams are announced to represent Willmar, with fundraising under way.

Willmar Doctors Lead Hospital Drive and Farewell Surprise

Local doctors and professionals rally for a General Hospital in Willmar to aid wounded soldiers. Willmar physicians donate time and equipment as part of the effort. In a separate event, Ernest Hamann and daughter Ella were honored at a surprise party near town with a purse of money. Rev Nicolay Nilsen spoke for the gathering. The Hamanns will move to Second Street East after fourteen years on a farm west of town.

Hand Amputated After Corn Shredder Accident Near Hancock

Kosheyich Leon was feeding loose corn stalks when twine tangled his hand in a four-oil shredder about six miles east of Hancock. His left hand was crushed and amputated roughly three inches above the wrist at Willmar Hospital. He lives at Lake Emily, nine miles east of Hancock.

Community program at Lake Lillian church service

A Saturday evening event at the Chemmarick Son home site in Lake Lillian drew several hundred attendees. The program featured Scripture reading and prayer by Rev. J B Sorenson, audience singing, readings by Minnie Sundin and Ruth Anderson, a piano solo by Mrs Adolph Ericson, remarks by Rev. Sorenson, and more audience songs and songs by Rev and Mrs Sorenson.

Home on furlough for Guerney Arthun visit

Guerney Arthun son of Mr and Mrs L Arthun of Spicer visited Saturday. He enlisted last spring in the cavalry and is now stationed at Sparta Wisconsin with Battery B Eighth Field Artillery. He arrived Friday evening and planned to stay until Monday but received a Sunday morning call to return to Sparta.

Maims Hand In Shredder In LaBolt

Gottfrid Englund of LaBolt was injured last Wednesday afternoon when his left hand was crushed in a corn shredder. He had fingers amputated in Madison. Frank M. McWhorter, a 35 year Great Northern engineer, left for St. Paul to receive a pension dating from last Friday.

Faithful public servant Henry Ramsett dies at home

Henry J. Ramsett longtime Kandiyohi county Clerk of Court died Sunday at his home at 12 30 pm after a stroke. Born May 16 1859 in Bad Axe Wisconsin he held public service posts in Willmar and New London and led as Clerk of Court since 1889. He was active in fraternal orders and survived by wife Ella and three children Grace Alma Bertha Elizabeth and Harold Earl plus siblings and extended family. Funeral services were conducted at St Luke's Episcopal Church with Odd Fellows in charge.

Gunshot Shatters Arm In Rabbit Hunting Accident

Hancock boy Veral Goulet aged about thirteen is hospitalized at Willmar after a shotgun discharge at 3 15 PM last Saturday shattered his left arm near the elbow and forearm while rabbit hunting. Dr. Lindsegard and Frisby of Hancock aided him in hospital care. doctors hope the arm can be saved.

Rev H C Kishpaugh of Raymond travels between trains en route for a month in Stillwater and Hackettstown New Jersey. He will visit his son Arthur in New York City. Death of Erik Nelson shocks Willmar community

The life of Erik N. Nelson, a respected contractor and Swedish Baptist church member, ended by self destruction after mounting financial troubles from project losses. Found in an ice-house with a 32 caliber revolver, the death was deemed instantaneous. Nelson, born November 19 1852 in Scania Sweden, lived in Willmar since 1880 with his wife. Funeral services were held at the house and Baptist church with Rev. Paul Hallin officiating and two duets performed.

Housekeeper's Club Plans Red Cross Work This Winter

The Housekeeper's Club met Saturday afternoon at Odd Fellows Hall with Mrs. J W Kent presiding. Minutes were read and reports given on Rest Room visitors, Flower Fund balance, and Cook Book fund. Plans for next year include monthly meetings in Red Cross rooms at 2 pm with no meals or program, heavy Red Cross focus, possible discontinuation of flower beds at the Post Office, and reallocating funds to Red Cross and soldier care.

District Judges appoint New London resident Edwin F. Fink to fill the vacancy as Clerk of Court in Kandiyohi County succeeding the late Henry J. Ramsett. Fink, longtime county official and former county superintendent of schools 1899 to 1903, is well known across the county for his service and community standing.

Olsen Hurt In Fall At Murdoch Construction Site

Jens H. Olsen, a prominent contractor in our city, suffered a serious accident Friday afternoon when a scaffold he stood on collapsed at Murdoch. He fell eighteen feet, broke his left leg near the hip, injured the chin, and sustained minor injuries. Branton of Willmar had him taken to Willmar hospital for treatment and setting of the limb. Olsen oversees construction of several buildings, including the new consolidated school, and his friends wish him a speedy recovery.

State board orders sixty five pounds weekly fish to asylum

The State Board of Control requests A Makiesky and Julius War shaveky of St Paul to supply Willmar State Asylum with sixty five pounds of fish each week at no charge by contract. Other state institutions may receive fish later but orders are not yet issued. The sale and supper at the Swedish Baptist church features a November 13 event with a 20 cent supper. Herman Rust, a farmer and auction buyer near Luverne, was killed when his touring car overturned two weeks ago. Erwin Erickson and Marjorie Hitch wed recently at Hitch’s Olivia home. William Blake of Redwood county was killed near Milroy when his car overturned. his wife was injured. Local notices include a loan promotion at Wiltmar National Bank.
