Numerous local residents visit Willmar area on weekend

Melvin Johnson visited Fallin on Sunday while Christ Berg of Svea, Carl Klint of Kandiyohi, Miss Abbie Edgren of Kandiyohi, and Paul M. Peterson spent Sunday with friends in Willmar. Anna Strom visited Raymond, John Bengen traveled for business, and J. Larnon went to Graceville. Many others including Nordahl Botuen to Belgrade, Mabel Novell and Kate Sorenson in Kandiyohi, and Mabel Lien returning home from teaching near Kandiyohi were noted guests and travellers around the region.

Pig Story Of Forty Years Ago At Willmar Farm Feud

Mr Peter Goli of Sacred Heart township in Renville county visited the Tribune office and recalled a pig theft tale from forty years ago. A hog raid tied up wheat deliveries at the Willmar elevators. a farmer’s pig was caught and slaughtered to punish the theft. The recovered pork was given to a local farmer, and thereafter pigs were not allowed to roam Willmar when Mr Goli was in town.

Plans for a large feed barn in city lots

Lars Halvorson plans to erect a cement block feed barn 38 by 140 feet on the lot behind his garage. He aims for a sanitary up to date building that would be a credit to the city. Farmers have struggled to find stable space, and with cold weather approaching demand will rise.

Larson Ekblad wedding at Jalmar Larson farm in Dovre

A wedding occurred at the Jalmar Larson farm in Dovre last night as Miss Odella Gertie Larson married Mr. Enoch Ekblad son of P. J. Ekblad of Like Andrew. The ceremony was by Rev. I. d. Johanson of the Hauge Synod at 6 o clock with twenty guests. The couple will reside at the Thorstein Larson place in Dovre after a wedding dinner attended by close family and a few out-of-town relatives.

Anti Slang Society Formed in Hutchinson

The Lester Prove News reports a Hutchinson group formed an anti slang society. The new president, in a playful acceptance speech, pledged firm action against slang while inviting married ladies to join and help curb the slang frontier.

Pioneer settler Lundgren dies after brief illness

ITUA FH Lundgren age 68 died at home in Falun after five days of lung fever. Born Sept 3 1848 in Mockfjord Dularne Sweden he emigrated 1871 with wife Carren Anderson settling on a Falun farm in 1873. Public lecture draws crowded Minneapolis audience

W. J. Bryan spoke at the auditorium to the state teachers association last Thursday evening. The hall was full and hundreds were turned away. E. P. Peterson arrived early but doors were closed. Bryan lectured on The Making of a Man. In city news, F. O. Swanson and Mrs. Swanson remain at Dr. Riches hospital. Dr. Riches welcomes a granddaughter born Oct. 16 to his son Alwin Riches and wife.

Lobeck Meeting Draws Large Crowd in Willmar

The Halloween eve gathering at Willmar Opera House drew about 500 people despite cold weather. Captain Fiistrup and Miss Ethel Reed opened with music, Attorney R W Stanford introduced Lobeck who spoke on clean politics and attracted strong support pledges for prohibition. he heads to New London tonight.

Hallowe'en Party At Bonde Hall Entranced Guests

Misses Florence and Hazel Benson hosted a Bonde hall Hallowe'en party last Friday with about 100 guests. Ghosts greeted arrivals, witches directed entries, and right hands in bags were shaken. Rooms featured autumn leaves, black cats, and lanterns, with a Spanish fortune teller, Nuts to Crack contest, silvery moon game, and other amusements. Delicous refreshments followed as guests departed late.

Arrest in St Johns township for beating wife

Kias Hide of St Johns township was arrested after his wife Bertha Hide accused him of a brutal assault near Oct 21. He faced assault in the second degree, bail set at 500 dollars, and was bound over to the grand jury. The husband offered a divorce but the judge ordered the case forward. The couple has four children, two at home near Pennock and two in an Iowa state institution.

Mayor Sprains Ankle While Inspecting Post Office

Mayor E A Wellin is confined to his rooms with a severe ankle sprain from inspecting the new post office yesterday morning. He may be unable to step on the injured foot for a week. Also noted are improvements by John Pallin on the old Free Country property including a planned basement and brick veneer in the spring. F L Smith moved a barn on Jensen and Second back from the street, with a new foundation and other Property improvements.
