Last Big Game In Willmar Baseball Clash Thursday

The High School and Seminary meet in Willmar next Thursday on Decoration Day for the final game of the year. Both teams claim victory and are confident of a hard fought, desperate contest. The ball park opens at 3 30 with two cents admission as locals expect one of the best games in Willmar history. Mrs A B Nelson of New London and her guest Mrs W Palmer of Beatty Canada visited relatives in Willmar Friday and Saturday.

Prizes for Neatness Set by Commercial Club Panel

The Commercial Club Public Improvements committee outlined a $50 prize pool for June to September, dividing it equally among four wards with three prizes each. A new feature includes monthly downtown inspections awarding yearly prize block shields for cleanliness across eighteen blocks. The effort aims to boost Willmar as a “city beautiful” and engage residents in tidying lots and premises. Also noted is the death of Mrs Marle Birkeland Christianson at 1010 Campbell avenue from pernicious anemia with funeral services planned at the Lutheran Free Church tomorrow.

Obituary for Andrew J. Forstrom of Willmar township

Andrew Jonason Forstrom born January 22 1857 in Rémsta Forssa Sweden died May 27 after eleven years of illness from oversh eating and nervous trouble. He came to America in 1882 with his brother J J Porstrom and bought a farm in Willmar township Section 24. He married Marie Carlson January 28 1889 and leaves four children Anna Bertina John Herbert Alma Olivia and Herman Harold plus a brother Jonas and four sisters in Sweden. Funeral Thursday at 1 30 pm at his residence conducted by Rev G Peterson with interment in Fairview cemetery.

Deaths and political notes from Kandiyohi County a week ago

The Bengtson family in Nest Lake mourns the death of eight month old Edgar Randall from pneumonia with funeral at the Swedish Lutheran church. Kandiyohi County Democratic convention favored Woodrow Wilson by 11 to 2, electing delegates to Duluth and selecting a county committee. Several district and at large members were chosen with a mass meeting planned to discuss a full county ticket. Seminary commencement and Old Emma Carlson's upcoming degree are noted, with Willmar hosting events and Rev. Swenson officiating.

Seminary Beats Atwater In A Fast 4 1 Victory

Willmar Seminary took a 4 to 1 win over Atwater last Saturday with Johnson throwing a no hit bid. Atwater scored on an error but Johnson closed gaps and kept next batters off base in crucial moments. This is the Seminary’s second win against Atwater, previously taking a ten inning game at Atwater.

Swedish Day Plans and May Social at Willmar

The Swedish Literary Society held its May social last Monday evening and formed a committee to petition the school board about teaching Scandinavian languages in Willmar schools at the next meeting. The Swedish Day report for Willmar this summer was adopted, proposing a parade, afternoon features, and an evening spectacle with two regular sessions. Committee appointments were postponed briefly. The Swedish Minister in Washington may be invited, with Congressman Lindbergh among expected attendees. Several young women plan a Green Lake house party for a week or ten days, chaperoned by Miss Elizabeth McLaughlin.

Fire destroys S. E. Stansberry implement house

A Saturday night blaze gutted the S. E. Stansberry implement warehouse and stock, with rapid spread left little salvage. Origin unclear. Stansberry, Parnell, and Sutcliff were in and out of the shop minutes before the fire discovered. Firemen contained flames as roof collapsed, salvaging some wagons and gear. loss listed at $11,600 with $10,000 insured on stock and $1,500 on fixtures.

Fire devastates Stansberry warehouse and nearby stock

Inner and Mc Parnell were present when a fire broke out at Stansberry's warehouse after 10:10 AM. John Dale spotted the flames. Osmundson Garage fire alarm summoned help as smoke unleashed a large black plume. A carload of machinery was saved due to pending unloading. Stansberry plans a brick rebuild, while John H. Martin recently sold his stake and avoided loss.

South Enders rout Spicer team on the road

The South End team traveled to Spicer Sunday and defeated Spicer 11 to 0 with Christian Brothers delivering the battery for the Southenders. Willmar played errorless ball and added heavy hitting to pile up the score. A coffee social is planned at the Nord farm home four miles northwest of the city next Thursday, May 40.

Churchmen From Norway to Attend Willmar Assembly

The Minnesota district of the Norwegian Lutheran Synod of America begins its annual meeting at Willmar Assembly Park Auditorium with Rev. R. J. Vauler delivering the opening sermon.
