Notice to Red Cross workers to report in surgical dressing uniforms at Headquarters on May 80th at 10 30 a m to participate in the parade if weather is favorable. All Canteen Workers are asked to come. Mrs M C Lewin entertained yesterday afternoon in honor of Mrs R W Hadley.
The St. Olaf College Band of fifty musicians under Prof F Melius Christensen performed to a packed Park Auditorium crowd last Wednesday. The concert opened with The Star Spangled Banner and featured solos by Miss Alfa Lindaas and an all around strong ensemble with Miss Adelaide Hjertaas as accompanist. Other highlights included medleys and overtures by Delibes Verdi Massenet and Waldteufel with an American airs medley encore.
Memorial Day events in Willmar include a 11:00 AM parade from the courthouse square through downtown, a 2:00 PM program at the Park Auditorium with Ex Congresssman Clarence B. Miller as speaker, and a community dinner for Civil War Spanish American and World War veterans. The Commercial Club urges closing city businesses for the day and decorations along the parade route. Local groups such as G A R veterans Red Cross and World War veterans participate with a large chorus and Star Spangled Banner.
Mickey a Mack Sennett seven reel comedy drama stars Mabel Normand and plays at the Majestic for Monday and Tuesday. The film delivers sensational rescues and chases with a roof top slide and villain pursuit amid mining town antics.
Jesse O. Aarvig son of Mr and Mrs Bert Aarvig and Isabel Ruth Somerville daughter of Mr and Mrs W R Somerville were joined in marriage at the bride’s home in Willmar in a May 24 ceremony officiated by Rev L C Benson. After a 45 guest dinner they will reside on the Hermanson farm west of town after June 15.
The Goldhamer and Rasmussen brothers, back from Panama where they served with the coast artillery corps, report warmer climate and a preference for Minnesota. Four other Willmar men remain in Panama until relief crews arrive. Rev. Andersen plans a strenuous preaching schedule in Sioux Falls, Los Angeles, Decorah, and Albert Lea as he contemplates a call from Los Angeles. Local ads promote Little Falls and St. Cloud business colleges with month to month tuition and no contracts.
Henry Nordin of Doyre avoided a collision with a car carrying women and children that stopped suddenly. He swerved off the road and struck a post. Mrs. Nordin was severely shaken but unharmed otherwise.
Sgt Ravin Stenson of Willmar arrived home after twenty months in the U S Army including time with the 82nd Division in France where he served as an observer on the front. He praises the army but plans to resume work in the G N Superintendent’s office after June 1. In a separate incident a party traveling to a charivari event drove their Ford into a ditch after being blinded by oncoming lights. No injuries beyond a soak. The note also mentions P M R Paul of the 124th machine gun battalion.
