Soldier Graves to Be Decorated on Memorial Day

Memorial Day events in Willmar honor fallen soldiers. In the morning volunteers will visit cemeteries to decorate graves led by Col. Hee Moen and the Mousevelt Camp United Spanish War Veterans with the Hatiscom Post of the American Legion present. An afternoon parade begins at five with the Willmar Band Cal Hes Post G A R Roosevelt Camp veterans, Fife and Drum Corps, and World War veterans marching along Meer Ave to Fourth St.

Parade and concert near court house grounds in Willmar

The event features a short program and an address by WW Stanford on the courthouse lawn. An invitation extends to every World War veteran for the 81st parade, regardless of Legion membership. Willmar stores will close at noon for the occasion.

Obituary for Rathert in Harrison Hometown

The German Lutheran rooger'e home at Harrisen mourns the death of Rathert after an operation for appendicitis. The service was held at St. James and funeral details note involvement from local churches and community members. Card of thanks thanks Kandiyohi and Atwater donors and those who helped during the bereavement and funeral.

Fatal Vulcanizer Explosion Kills Kavanagh Brother

A vulcanizing shop accident at Kavanagh Brothers on Fifth Street Friday morning fatally injured Thomas J. Kavanagh who died about an hour after the blast. The explosion, caused by a failing steam gauge reading forty pounds, hurled debris wounding him as Michael Kavanagh escaped unhurt. Thomas was rushed to Willmar Hospital where he died at noon.

REQUEST ALL NIGHT LIGHTS FOR ALL-NIGHT STREET ILLUMINATION

A petition to keep street lights burning all night on dark evenings drew about four hundred signatures from business firms and residents. The Water & Light Commission will review the request as aldermen favored granting it. Also taken up were Minnesota Street grading east of Fourth Street and Park Avenue traffic plans with a Park entrance reroute. Three licensing ordinances were advanced to final passage and adopted.

Memorial Day Proclamation Encourages Observance

The proclamation states Memorial Day will be observed on Sunday and Monday May 31, urging businesses to suspend operations and citizens to participate to emphasize patriotism. Mayor Victor E. Lawson signs the message urging proper observance and reflection on the holiday’s lessons.

Sibley Park Dedication Set for June 26

Sibley State Park officials met in New London with Senator Gandrud and Representative Wicklund to announce a formal dedication on Saturday June 26. Gov Burnquist and many lawmakers from the last session are expected as guests. Committees were formed to plan a civic celebration inviting public cooperation for a notable regional event.

Large crowds gathered at Willmar Park Auditorium for afternoon and evening rallies featuring Henrik Shipstead for governor and O J Kvale for congress. Speakers Ostby Nelson and Jonicks joined Dugan and Bergquist as banners and autos filled the parade route to the fairgrounds, signaling strong momentum ahead of the upcoming primary.

Multiple Nordic Widows Remain in Willmar Area Obituaries

Mrs. Anna Falk of Willmar Kreis Kerkhoven and Mrs. Carrie Winblad of Willmar Chicago Morgan Park area are mourned in a Willmar news item. Anna Falk died after a weeklong illness born in Sweden in 1852 emigrated 1868 later residing in Willmar Kerkhoven and nearby towns. Carrie Winblad widow of N u Winblad longtime Willmar resident died in Chicago May 24. Funeral services set for May 29 at Elmer Peterson home and Free Mission Church Kerkhoven and interment at West Salem cemetery. Rev. Tegnell and Rev. Modig officiating. League of Women Voters Demonstration at Citizenship Courses

Miss Emily Kneubuhl will preside at Citizenship Courses next Tuesday and Wednesday at the Court House. Sessions begin Tuesday 2 30 p m and 8 p m with topics on government elections and local problems, a dramatic voting demonstration Wednesday afternoon, and visitors urged from rural districts. The meetings are nonpartisan and open to all voters, including men.
