Visiting families gather in Willmar area for summer plans

Axel Ostlund of Revilla and son Charles visited last week with Gustafson Brothers in Willmar and Dovre. Ostlund intends to buy a nearby farm if he finds a suitable one. Geo S. Stewart and Mrs Stewart hosted George Miller and Mrs Miller of Whitefish Montana. they plan to travel to St Louis then return later summer for a month at Green Lake. Mrs T H Hagen of Duluth stayed with Willmar relatives and was honored at a party by Mrs F E Ackerman. she plans to return to Duluth tomorrow. Mrs Ellen Johnson returned to Maynard after visiting her sons Alexander and Elmer, coming from St Paul to stay with her son and daughter‑in‑law Joseph T. Johnson.

Wireless telephone demonstration visits Willmar by Nott and Emery

J L Nott and George Francis Emery demonstrated the Continental wireless telephone in Willmar noting 47 stations countrywide with Fargo and Duluth already contracted. They described a small box device sending airwaves up to 250 miles with no lines, a show planned for local business leaders this afternoon. Also in town, Rev. Horatio Gates travels Monday to St Paul and Milwaukee then New York with Mrs Gates. a Willmar Opera House event is set for May 28. A group of local youths enjoyed a day at Sena tor L O Thorpe’s summer home Atheim with Edith Jane Bertha Thorpe Inga Grangaard and others.

Willmar Girl Brutally Slain and Suicide

A Willmar girl Miss Goldie Cale daughter of Mr and Mrs John L Cale was shot and killed by farmer John McGuire about eight oclock last Wednesday evening near the McGuire home in Hegbert Swift county. McGuire then hanged himself in the same vicinity. Miss Cale had been boarding there while teaching.

Tragic double murder suicide ends night at Swift county farm

McGuire shot Miss Cale after a quarrel at supper then killed himself on a bridge over the Pomme de Terre river. The companion, a hired man, and the community were left to mourn 22 year old Miss Cale who had recently graduated Morris High School. The farmer McGuire previously had a reputation for character and a high standing in theSwift county community. The inquest was deemed unnecessary and both bodies were transported to Benson and Morris for burial.

Decoration Day Observances in Willmar May 30

Decoration Day set for Monday in Willmar with business closures in the afternoon. Program forms at 2 p.m. from Public Library square led by city officials, Willmar Band, and G A R posts, proceeding to Assembly Park for an auditorium program including music, memorial addresses, and the crowd singing America. Cremation? (Note: final includes mayoral proclamation requesting afternoon closures from 1 p.m.)

Eighth Grade Reception Highlights Carlson Hall Event

The eighth grade reception last Friday at Carlson Hall featured green and white decorations, a 12 member decorating committee led by Miss Ellen Larson, games readings and vocal and instrumental numbers. Ruth Sanderson and Helen Hornbeck served frappe while committees and local leaders attended. The class has about 65 members with Raymond Stansberry as president and Blanche MacNees as treasurer.

Moon Eclipse Wows Observers Under Clear Pacific Sky

A near total lunar eclipse was visible Monday night with clear skies from 9 46 p m, reaching totality from 11 09 to 11 54 p m and clearing again at 1 22 a m Observers on the Pacific coast used the dark sky to photograph Halley s comet Miss Margaret Bush Gladys Monson and Walter Monson traveled from Asbury to visit the Jonas Monson home over the weekend.

Willmar to Host United Norwegian Danish Singing Societies Sangerfest

The Park Assembly auditorium will host the United Norwegian Danish Singing Societies of the Northwest on July 14 as part of Willmar sangerfest activities. A special train from the Twin Cities will bring participants from Fargo to Duluth and beyond, with about 250 male voices in the chorus and a Swedish influenced repertoire. Season tickets to the 1910 assembly will admit to the sangerfest, otherwise admission is 75 cents for any part of the hall.

Reds Win Blue Banquet For Presbyterian Society

A six week attendance contest in the Presbyterian church C E society ended with Reds defeating Blues. The Blues hosted the banquet last Thursday after the Reds won. Water and toothpicks started the feast until toastmaster H A Seybold sparked the crowd with remarks and stories. Games filled the time before and after the meal. Mrs Ole Ahlstrom returned home from Spicer yesterday.

State Hospital bids opened but contract may be deferred

The State Board of Control opened bids for the State Hospital for Inebriates but deferred action due to insufficient funds. Bidders included J B Nelson Mankato $209000 Kingsley Paint Faribault $201000 Bjorsell Olsen Willmar $194600 and Lauritzen Fergus Falls $180000. Rev Gynild of Eagle Lake has received a call from Fargo North Dakota.

S. E. Stansberry drives a new 1910 Velie car. Mrs. A. C. Skoog hosted a tea for Miss Ellen Syse. The Ladies Social Union netted 40 at a James Sanderson home supper. South End beat Spicer 11 to 9 at Spicer. Rev J.N. Anderson completed a month at Dist 44 parochial school with 30 pupils. Miss Anna Knudson assisted. Rent and Helpers League meets May 30 at 7:45 p.m. at Salvation Army hall. Russell Frost returned from Litchfield after an appendicitis operation and is recovering. West End Cubs defeated Lafayette in a six inning game. second win over Lafayette, 5 to 4 earlier. Mission circle meets at Baptist church next Wednesday at 2 with Mrs. S. P. Swenson leading Daniel study. refreshments served. F. F. Paulson bought a Regal car for 1250 dollars after a Twin Cities trip.
