A flurry of Saturdays and Mondays finds Mrs. J. A. McKinnon in the Cities while M. R. Simons and others travel between Raymond St. Paul and nearby towns. Names include Lundquist, Long, Holmdal, Fisk, Meyer, Smith, Abrahamson, Cushman Wright, Inga Johnson, and many more visiting family, friends, or attending events across Minnesota and neighboring states.

Bridge Builder Maimed For Life In Accident

Frank C. Berglund foreman on the Great Northern bridge crew in Willmar suffered a severe injury when a falling timber pinned his leg near the knee during unloading at Campbell. The accident occurred as Master Carpenter Reese pulled a log free, Berglund was caught between timber and the track. He was rushed to Bethesda Hospital and operated on, showing steady recovery. Berglund, a husband and father of four, has the community’s sympathy.

Social Events of Week in Willmar

A week of tea dinners and parties in Willmar featured Mrs. Ole Lundquist hosting her mother Mrs. P Warner, Mrs Gertrude Palm entertaining for a dinner, and eighteen guests with garden flowers as decor. Miss Murial Cappan honored, High School left-for-college party at Carlson hall included Helen Hornbeck Ellen Larson Winnie Mabel Rogers Viggo Larsen Ralph Hornbeck Walter Minton. A St Luke's Silver Tea drew good attendance and reviews of Bishop Whipple study. Eyelet Club met for fancy work and social time. Miss Murial Tappan of Boston was hosted by Olive Crosby with dominoes and lilac and rose decor. Mrs W M Chase hosted a four course dinner for Miss Mabel Rogers with lilac decor and card jokes. St Agnes Guild elected officers Nora Elfstram presiding, Russell Spicer president, Nettie Williams vice, Lillie Korthe secretary, Ella Gould treasurer, and concluded with luncheon. The last meeting before summer vacation wrapped up with games.

Graduation of 1911 class at seminary Willmar

Willmar Seminary holds commencement on Friday evening June 2. A class of nineteen graduates will receive diplomas with Rev. T. A. Hoff of Wheaton delivering the address. The senior list includes Sophia Tallakson, Lottie Pelton, William Johnson, Edwin Stenson, and others. Olof Knutson and Ludvig Strand are among the faculty. Mr. and Mrs. Kloster plan to sail for Norway May 27 from New York.

Willmar High School Commencement Week Opens

The Willmar High School marks its commencement week with a Baccalaureate sermon by Rev. D. B. Spencer at the Presbyterian church on May 28. Commencement Day will be May 31 at Park Assembly Auditorium with Dr. J. F. Young delivering the address. Class Day occurs June 1 at the Opera House featuring musical and dramatic items.

Wind Storm Ravages County with Barn Demolitions

A Thursday wind storm tore through the south part of the county bringing heavy rain and hail. Barns at L J Peterson and Olof Parson collapsed, with extensive damage and insurance actions. a tornado-like blast damaged a shack at Clough’s site, injuring a crewman. Multiple windmills, silos, and farm structures fell, cows killed in Hol land and Kandiyohi townships, and windows and fruit buds shattered in villages like Willmar and Kandiyohi.

Musical Debut by Three Young Ladies in Willmar

Three young women finish two year teacher course at Miss Reed School of Music and debut May 29 in Seminary Hall. Miss Reed trains them to teach beginners while pursuing concert study. Maia Sherman and Miss Ackerlund bring added vocal and violin expertise from St. Paul, boosting Willmar’s music education prospects.
