Registration Day Set for June Fifth in Kandiyohi County

Registrars in Kandiyohi County announce registration day on June fifth to enroll male citizens aged 21 to 20 for World War I draft. Polling places stay same as last election with hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registrars listed by district include towns such as Pennock, Willmar, Spicer, and Atwater, with many village and city wards named. Willmar Seminary Graduation Set for June Twenty One

Seminary will graduate twenty one students on Saturday evening June 2 with Rev B E Bergesen of Seattle delivering the commencement address. The week opens with the baccalaureate at 7 30 Sunday, May 28. Alumni banquet Friday June 1 at Carlson hall. Valedictory by Esther Andersen salutatory by Edward Olson and other honors listed. Admission 10 cents.

Erick P. Glad Dies After Illness in Minneapolis

Erick P. Glad aged 63 died in Minneapolis last Friday after a four week bed illness. A resident of Willmar for fifteen years he was a blacksmith apprentice in Sweden and later worked in building trades including grain elevators. He was born March 23 1854 in Jarf la Gifleborg Sweden and married Christine Engstrom October 20 1877 at Norrange Arbro parish. The family came to America in 1892 settling in Willmar May 23 twenty five years ago. He was father to Er ick Glad Jr and Mrs H C Johnson.

Funeral of Swedish-born man held in Willmar

The deceased, who resided in Minneapolis, is survived by his life companion and six children including Christine Johnson and Eric A. Glad of Willmar, Mary Mia, J. C. Larson and Dr. William P. Glad of Minneapolis, Edith Rydygaard of Moose Jaw, and Dani Harold Glad of Kennecott Alaska. A brother and sister remain in Sweden. Funeral services were conducted Monday at 2:30 PM at the Swedish Baptist church in Willmar with Rev. Paul Hallin officiating. Duets by Missat Agnes and Martha Parson, flowers from relatives, and a wreath from the Baptist congregation were noted. Interment followed at Fairview.

Willmar Mourns Miss Ella Gould Teacher Dies in Minneapolis

Miss Ella Gould a longtime Willmar public school teacher died in Minneapolis after illness from pluro-pneumonia. Born in Canada on March 1, 1875, she lived in Willmar since childhood and taught sixth grade at the Central Building. She leaves three sisters and a circle of friends. The body will be brought home and funeral plans were not yet set. Separately, the Willmar Co-operative Mercantile Co. purchased their home block from Andrew Larson and plans extensive improvements, starting with enlarging the grocery department. the deal was about $20,000.

Confectionery Burglary at Maloney’s Store

Early Friday morning the J. E. Maloney confectionery store was burglarized with about 16 dollars in merchandise stolen. Missing items include a small clock cigarettes candy and 2 dollars in pennies. Entry was through the back door with torn screens and a cut door panel as the hint left a laundry mark from Fargo.

Kandiyohi County Invites Liberty Loan Subscriptions

Hon L O Thorpe leads Kandiyohi County in selling U S Liberty Loan bonds to support the war effort. Solicitors will canvass precincts. residents urged to subscribe through local banks. Message stresses patriotic duty and that bonds pay 4 percent interest, with payments semiannual, while addressing public doubts about bank rates.

Seminary Alumni Meeting at Carlson Hall Friday Evening

The Willmar Seminary Alumni Association will hold its annual meeting Friday evening June first at Carlson Hall. Banquet served at 7:30 pm. A splendid program and several features are planned. All graduates are invited to attend whether invited or not due to incomplete reach.

Governor Appoints Rice to State Safety Commission

W A Rice is named County Representative of the State Safety Commission by Governor Burnquist. The appointment was received at the State Capitol after the committee found current work meets Plans and wishes. They urged rapid township organization and separate village committees, with Decoration Day plans to distribute membership buttons and collect silver offerings for the County League.

Memorial Day Parade Set for Willmar Civic Program

Preparations for Memorial Day parade and program in Willmar are nearly complete. Participants include Al Braithwaite marshal drum corps veterans bands council fire department and civic groups. Parade forms at 1 30 pm and proceeds through Becker Fifth Litchfield Third Pacific Seventh Nel son to the park auditorium for a 3 pm program with music remarks duets solos and selections.
