New State Law For Auto Drivers Sets New Rules

A newly enacted state auto law took effect last Saturday. Drivers have thirty days to obtain licenses for vehicles and chauffeurs. Speed limits, mufflers, lamps, brakes, and signals are specified. On streets, slow vehicles stay near the right curb while faster traffic passes center or left. Stop after accidents and provide name and address when asked.

Change at Local Fegeees Ice Office of the Great Ni Express

Robert G McClintock a brakeman on the Sioux line and former express messenger bought a half interest in the business from Walter De La Hunt. He leaves the road to devote time to the express company. Enoch Selenen has left the local office for St Paul seeking similar work with possible moves to California. a change occurred at the local northern.

Train schedule changes announced for No 21 and Oriental Limited

The Tribune notes timetable adjustments: train No 21 will depart St Paul at 5 PM, Minneapolis at 5:30 PM, and arrive here at 8:50 PM, earlier than 10 PM. The Oriental Limited begins Chicago departure and travels via cities and the coast, with a revised route effective next Monday.

Old Settlers Meet To Be Held Atwater June Fifteenth

Kan diyohi County Old Settlers Association gathers in Atwater on Tuesday June 15 per invitation from Atwater citizens. The day includes a morning business meeting a town hall dinner and an afternoon program with speeches athletic events and a baseball game admission free and prizes offered, with notable speakers including Hon E H Canfield and W E Lawson. Melvin Grangaard and relatives arrive for visit while families host gatherings around the event.

Kandiyohi County Banks Report Large Deposits Rise

Nearly two million dollars are deposited in Kandiyohi county banks per the latest report. Willmar leads with about 1,241,000. Water 283,000. New London 192,000. Raymond 82,000. Kandiyohi 44,000. Green Lake 35,000. The figures show a healthy, continuing rise and reflect the county’s strong wealth and prospects.

Norwegians Celebrate Independence Day in Local Events

The 17th of May Norway Independence Day was celebrated in town by the Zilo society of the Lutheran Free Church and a Bonde hall entertainment under the Sons of Norway. Olh entertainments drew large crowds. Anton Sanner of Superior Wisconsin, former Norwegian actor, spoke with character readings and folk songs, with Miss Laura Jorgenson providing accompaniment. Attorney T O Gilbert gave an address on the meaning and achievements of Norwegians in America.

Class of 1909 Present The Rivals at School Play

The graduating class presented Sheridan’s The Rivals in a well received performance by local thespians. Edwin Sletten excelled as Sir Anthony Absolute, Frank Palm played Capt. Jack Absolute, Oswald Grangaard suited Bob Acres, Lydia Languich and Elsie Hoglund gave strong Mrs Malaprop and supporting actors impressed. Despite cost, corseted costumes, and a total net entertainment around $20 directed toward a class memorial for the school.

Surprise honors Rev J J Malloy at Willmar parish

A large group surprised Rev J J Malloy with a cash purse and well wishes as he departs for Shieldaville near Fraibault to serve a new parish. Rev Cornelius McDavitt will succeed him in Willmar and Kandiyohi, arriving from Minneapolis where he was a Catholic Orphan’s Home chaplain. A social for Woman’s Suffrage followed by a talk by Dr Ethel E Hurd is announced for Carlson’s Hall. County roads were designated from the county line east through Atwater Willmar Pennock to Swift boundary and from Willmar south to Svea then west to Raymond, with funds expected after August 1910. A county road petition for Green Lake’s south side and another between Willmar and Kandiyohi was denied.

Minnesota History Puzzle Pictures Sixth U S Senators

Readers are asked to mail solutions by May 25 for the sixth puzzle in the Minnesota History series. Prizes include Willmar views mailed to every correct entrant. Sheriff Bonde Captures Davis After Liquor Charge

In New London Justice Henry Winblad hears Charles D. Davis plead guilty to selling intoxicating liquor without a license. Davis pays a total of 75.86 dollars including fines and costs. Sheriff Bonde hunted him from New London to Hinckley, where the bird was finally captured. Davis, once shipping consignments, is now working near Hinckley and faces further charges. Willmar Steam Laundry moves to new Willmar plant

Tribune reporter tours the Willmar Steam Laundrys new Willmar facility noting a roomy, pleasant setup with a west side office, new 50 hp boiler, additional machinery, outside hot water tanks, and a ventilation system that avoids moisture in the work room. Hawkins and Wagner are praised for modernizing the plant and growing the business. Also reported is a Great Northern westbound passenger robbery near Culbert, Washington, with $20,000 in registered mail taken, the engine and car being forced down the track and colliding with the train, twelve injured, robbers at large.

Victor E Lawson and Lluila Shelstrom wed quietly at 402 Flint

Victor E Lawson editor and panner of the Tribune married Miss Lluila Shelstrom at noon Thursday at 402 Flint street. Rev G Peterson officiated in Swedish Lutheran church. The couple, joined by Mrs Peterson and Elsie T Lawson, left for a wedding dinner then a short trip and will reside at 402 First street after June 15.

Bird Shooters Beware of State Bird Protection Law

Beware boys with sling shots air guns and rifles. The law makes it a misdemeanor to kill or destroy birds such as brown thrush bluebird martin swallow wren catbird robin pewee meadowlark or their nests or eggs. Punishment ranges from one to fifteen dollars fine.

Secred Cantata at Crow River Church

A sacred concert will be given at Crow River church next Sunday afternoon at 2 o clock under the Young People’s Society. The Easter Evangel cantata will be sung by the Swedish Lutheran church choir of New London, with local numbers. Prof A E Nelson of New London will deliver an address. Admission 10 and 20 cents. Attendees should bring lunch.
