County Graduation Plans and Graduates List

Preliminary arrangements for the county school graduation exercises at the Court House on Friday June 9 are completed. Speakers will be Charles E Rodeen and C C Swain. The list of graduates is incomplete but names handed in include many from districts 4 through 97 with a total class size not to exceed seventy five. Miss Mary Bergman of district 26 is valedictorian with 89.7, and Miss Nellie Olson, 89, will be saluted. A rummage sale and a rag sale will be held by St. Luke's Episcopal Ladies Guild at the Guild Hall May 19 and 20 with coffee served both days.

Public School Children to Present Posey Bed Operetta

Public school children directed by Miss James will stage the operetta Posey Bed at the high school auditorium Saturday at eight. Admission is 15 cents adults 10 cents children. Cast includes Pearl Brown Mabel Peterson Gladys Peterson Marie Gilbertson Pearl Johnson Jewel McDonald Ezra Scotton Elsie Millard Evelyn Swenson Estelle Lundquist Ruby Sather and others with about seventy five participants. Priam Young People’s Society also lists a program and refreshments. A laborer was injured by train No 27 near the Bethesda hospital with internal injuries and a broken arm. An advertisement notes meat business move to a new location during construction.

Mrs Martha Bengtson mother of N N Bengtson of Svea and Mrs Olof Mattson of Tripolis died at O N Bengtson home Ellingson S D last Friday May 12 at 2 30 p m after about three weeks illness Cause of death old age Born February 22 1833 in Kristianstadslan Sweden came to the United States in 1885 residing at Svea then Ellingson Perkins county S D and finally Ellingson again Her husband died about twenty years ago Survived by two sons O N Bengtson Ellingson and Nels N Bengtson Svea two daughters Ellen Anderson Ellingson and Olof Mattson Tripolis a sister Mrs Peter Monson Svea a brother Mons Hallquist Bowbells N D and seventeen grandchildren Funeral Tuesday at 1 30 p m from Svea church Rev W Pearson officiating Interment Svea cemetery Pallbearers P O Nelson A O Nelson B S Rasmusson Ernest Swenson Es kil Swenson and Oscar Westerberg All children attended the funeral.

Bethel Choir to Sing at Tripolis Church Next Week

Bethel Lutheran church choir will give a concert at Tripolis Lutheran church south of Kandiyohl on Friday evening May 26. The program starts at eight oclock with admission set at twenty five cents. The program features vocal solos by Miss Esther Pearson and selections by Bethel Ladies Chorus Bethel Mixed Quartette and Bethel Male Quartette among others.

Memorial Day plans in Willmar with parade and observances

Memorial Day will be observed in Willmar with a parade from the courthouse square and daytime schoolchildren exercises. A monster evening meeting is planned at the Park auditorium by the Junior Commercial League, with a committee from the Commercial Club coordinating with Supt. Foster and school staff. The day’s program will be published next week.

Twin Cities visitors and locals report weekend travel

A long list of residents and visitors spent Sunday or weekend in the twin cities and nearby towns. Notables include John Hildahl J. Hultgren and Miss Frances Hed visiting Benson and Cokoto, while Grace Sperry and Nellie Holt visited Atwater and Spicer respectively. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bednors last week and several residents traveled for business or family visits reflecting a active community scene.

Militia Company Urged In Willmar For Armory And Training

A Commercial Club meeting in Willmar backed forming a volunteer militia company to secure an armory and provide physical training for local youths. Rev W A Rice J H Nelson and M R Simons were tasked to start the effort. Col Erle D Luce of Minneapolis outlined militia needs and laws likely boosting city defense. drills would run evenings from eight to ten, pay for enlisted men and officer study were noted.
