Last Day for State and County Filing Passes Note

Lively scraps describe governor candidates Republican Henrik Shipstead and J D A Preis with various endorsements. Democratic contenders include Julius Lehmans Thomas Keele and others. Several candidates have withdrawn. Today is last day for state filings and June 1 for county offices.

Masonic Knights Parade in Willmar Next Saturday

The Masonic order plans a Knight Templar Pilgrimage to Willmar on May 15 led by Damascus Commandery of St. Paul No. 1 arriving by special train. About 175 Knights in uniform, with the Weirowt fife and drum corps, will march a circuit past Pacific Fifth Fifth and Litchfield streets to the Masonic Temple. Citizens along the route will decorate in welcome. The St. Paul contingent includes prominent citizens such as Grand Commander Chys 3 Schurman.

Willmar Designated as Army Recruiting City

Willmar has been designated by the Air Department as one of fifteen Minnesota cities with permanent Army recruiting stations. Major Rob Frith USA Retired, in charge of the Minnesota Wisconsin recruiting district, announced that offices would open without delay. Sergeant John Hoven, 49th Infantry, Fort Stelling, will be the Army representative in Willmar. The station at Willmar, to be headquartered at the Central Hotel, reflects a War Department plan to widen Army representation.

Barn Fire Destroys Nelson Farm Near Rosendale

Nelson, a Danielson Township farmer living one mile from Rosendale, lost about 40000 in a Monday night blaze that razed a new barn with fourteen horses, forty two cattle, and nineteen sheep. Only 2700 insurance was carried. Fire origin undetermined. neighbors saved house and granary. The barn, 100 feet, coated with galvanised tin, housed a milking machine and three tons of hay and feed. Dead stock lay in stalls next morning. described as the heaviest property loss in the local area.

Rev C J Kvale Seeks Seventh District Congress Seat

Rev C J Kvale born February 6 1869 near Decorah Iowa and raised on a farm enters the Republican race for Minnesota seventh district. A Luther College and Luther Seminary graduate he has served as a pastor in Wisconsin and Minnesota and held church board roles while supporting wartime Red Cross efforts. Picture House Takes An Advanced Stand

Dreamland Theatre last Saturday showed a film attacking the Non Partisan League. Management then announced no political propaganda would appear in regular shows. The Non Partisan League of Willmar furnished a letter from the Minnesota Sound Government Association seeking anti League speakers paid for with lectures and travel, proposing a two shift schedule with fifty dollars weekly and expenses. The letter urged moving speakers to St Paul for instruction and road work across the state.

Nutritional Clinic for Underweight Children Planned

Kandiyohi County Public Health Association schedules a Nutritional Clinic for underweight children on Saturday May 15 at Carlson Hall. Doctors Batchelder Seham and Miss Cordiner will assess children aged five to sixteen from wards three and four in the forenoon and wards one and two in the afternoon with county nurse Miss Imsdahl assisting. Mothers must attend to ensure the clinic's value.

School Notes from the May gatherings at local schools

The Teachers Monthly gathering in the Industrial Building featured a supper by the Misses Falk, King, Tinker, and Nelson. Fire drills showed Central grade students exiting in 48 seconds and high school in 60. Football and basketball players presented Mr. Trebilcock with a silver cup. President J. C. Brown urged enrollment in St. Cloud Normal School next fall. Garfield school PTA officers were elected: Mrs. W. H. Chard president, Mrs. C. E. Anderson vice president, Mrs. C. R. C. Baker treasurer and secretary. Eighth grade girls enjoyed a weiner roast at the island. Several students missed days due to illness. Lafayette PTA planned a public coffee May 22 at the Masonic Temple. Thanks were given to the Ruddys for swings and a sandbox. Miss Swanberg and Miss Boreen noted in/g exceptions. Palmer Manual progress noted with awards, certificates, and buttons for numerous students. Lincon School third graders made weather calendars for May.

Curfew Set By City Council To Begin Monday

City Council revived the nine o'clock curfew and will toll the firebell nine times at 9 30 PM from Monday. Children loitering after hours may be taken home by police except those with guardians or running errands. New appointees include Frank Fransein as night patrolman and Dr Edward Warner as dairy inspector.

Willmar Trader Plans Lake Street Meat Shop Purchase

Walter Hoglund of Willmar visited Minneapolis to finalize a deal to buy four meat shops on Lake Street, with the transaction expected to be completed after a short visit later in the week.
