Store Burglary At Jones Clothing Co With Horse Theft

Burglars entered the Jones Clothing Co store late Friday night or early Saturday morning and stole numerous items including about a dozen ten cent handkerchiefs, 52 pairs of pants, four suitcases, socks, gloves, underwear, neckwear, vests and some jewelry. A platform buggy horse and buggy were stolen nearby, likely used to transport goods, with a gunny sack seen later. Investigations traced tracks to area farms and churches. two men were seen at a church and school house while lodging in a church, and the rig was later found in Eden Valley. Sheriff Lundquist pursued leads to Grove City, Minneapolis, and Eden Valley with no immediate arrest at press time.

Patented strawboard process by Pieter Pring outlined

Pieter Pring of Minneapolis has received US letters patent 819595 issued May 1 for a process to make heavy strawboard from straw. The method cuts straw, mixes with quicklime, heats in a closed retort with steam at five atmospheres for about 3.5 hours, grinds to a homogeneous pulp, dries and forms sheets. The patent includes claims detailing cutting, lime mixing, steaming, grinding, beating, drying and forming sheets. The work aims to reduce material costs and improve strawboard quality.

Medal Winners Crowned In Opera House Contest

The gold medal contest at the opera house last Friday drew a large audience and proved a decided success. Contestants included Carl Jacobson Albert Porter Bettina Solum Gertrude Hilleboe and Victor Knutson. Gertrude Hilleboe won the medal with Jacobson second. Judges were H Sherwood R W Stanford and A O Forsberg. The judging method involved each judge scoring on a fifty point scale and averaging the three marks. A musical program followed featuring Prof N B Swalin Mrs F I Cairne Bethel quartet a mandolin trio and a Campalgo song by Mr Howe.

Telephone Man Will Marry Tomorrow

Invitations issued for the marriage of Misa Dora Brown of Litchfield to E. C. Kast of Minneapolis, a Tri State Telephone Co. agent. The ceremony is at the bride’s home tomorrow. Neighbors Celebrate Maple Camp 384 Anniversary

Maple Camp No 384 of the Royal Neighbors of America celebrated its tenth anniversary with a large visiting delegation. A Kerkhoven degree team instigated five candidates, Dr Johnson gave the anniversary address, and a varied program followed including solos, readings, and drills. Ice cream and refreshments concluded the evening as Kerkhoven guests left for the late train.
