Booster Bill Becomes Town Mayor In Humorous Tale

A light verse outlines how Bill Blue rose from a knocker to town mayor by boosting spirits and business, earning the nickname Booster Bill. It contrasts with a runaway tale of William Kerridge and Walter Bugbee, two Minneapolis youths who ride a fast mail train to Breckenridge and back, aided by Sheriff Bonde, before returning home. A Housekeepers Club meeting is announced for May 7 with recitations, piano solos, and a flowers discussion.

Brilliant Meteor Light Up County Last Monday Night

A large meteor of unusual brilliancy passed over the county shortly after ten o clock, leaving a light trail for over fifteen minutes. Eyewitnesses described a fast moving glowing ball that appeared low, with a shaking head, and a rushing sound suggesting high altitude. A report from Senator Grue's farm said a meteor struck near a barn, starting a fire in loose straw but not spreading. Remains collected by Grune include ashes and small solid fragments with a strong sulfur smell. The site was burned, and it was thought the fire near the barn could have been disastrous if the meteor had fallen a few feet farther east. Arthur Brewer, seven miles southwest of Willmar, also witnessed the event and claimed Halley's comet accompanied the meteor. The legend ties the sight to Halley’s comet, seen as part of the same celestial visit.
