Crow River Valley Medical Society Meets in Willmar

The annual meeting of the Crow River Valley Medical Society was held in Willmar on Wednesday April 26 with city physicians as hosts. A banquet at Merchant's hotel followed a program of talks and toasts led by Dr. G A Cutts and Dr. A W Robertson. Present were numerous physicians from Minneapolis Litchfield Willmar Grove City and other towns.

After noon socials and fishing news from Mamre area

Mesdames F W Minton C E Hornbeck and A O Bryant hosted three charming afternoon events on Wednesday Thursday and Friday. Tulips carnations and roses adorned the homes with pink as the decorative color. Refreshments and games followed a 1:30 luncheon with centerpieces of roses and carnations. Mrs G A Moore led in five hundred. Mrs Robert Weir of Minneapolis joined the out of town guests. Fishing season opened Monday with limits on pike and crappies and a new nonresident license requirement. Marie Erlandson hosted Lydia Erlandson and Anna Johnson who visited Mamre and returned Tuesday.

Obituary Adolph Hagan of Irving Dies After Health Crisis

Adolph Hagen of Irving died Sunday afternoon April 2 after an injury while leading a horse to a barn. Found groaning near a hay stack, he lingered after arrival of a physician. Funeral was held Monday April 24 at Nordland church with Rev C E Nordberg officiating. Survived by two sons John and Peter and daughters Hannah Celia and Ellen. he had no relatives in this country but many friends. He had recently moved from Willmar to Duluth with his daughter Hannah. Burial in Fairview cemetery.

Bereaved Stai family mourns burial and farm help from neighbors

Mrs Annie Stai of Arclander was buried Monday at East Norway Lake church with Rev Sotendahl. Her husband Ole, driven mad by grief, was hospitalized at Fergus Falls. Neighbors seeded the farm in one day to ease the familys burden. four children remain, youngest 11. In Kandiyohi a seven year old girl, Mildred Kroona, died May 1 after clothes caught fire from burning leaves during a neighbor’s bonfire and the funeral will be at Ebenezer church with Rev B E Walters. Four sons and two daughters survive.

John Person Dies After Short Illness in Duluth Homecoming

John Person, a Sweden native, died after a brief illness following a move to Duluth to live with his children. He had visited the city a month earlier to establish a home and had reached advanced age.

District Convention of Woman's Christian Temperance Union at Atwater

The 28rd annual W C T U convention meets today and tomorrow at the Atwater Presbyterian church with sessions through Thursday. Willmar participants include Mesdames Oberg Parnell Styles Hodgson Cairns Ives Crandall and Miss Lange Oberg and Emery Parnell. Thursday evening features a pageant with glee clubs, orations, solos, and a medal presentation. Postmaster Crosby reports Washington orders to count and weigh all mail classes and record handling times, a May start to assess office performance and guide future improvements.

Grasshopper Hatch Clumps Found By Cedar Mill Farmer

Albert Joercks of Cedar Mill reports dirt from his plow containing grasshopper eggs hatched into lively hoppers. Other farmers in the area confirm a thick infestation likely to damage crops and note these may be a different species from those of the 1870s.

May Meeting Highlights Telephone Debate and Hospital Fund

Willmar Commercial Club members debated the telephone ordinance and opposed a new system while supporting continued current rates and service. A hospital fund drive received attention with a $5,000 pledge idea, and a committee was formed to pursue Memorial Day events and a potential electric railway project. Swan Larson joined the club to reach full membership. Monday Afternoon Club discussed Hamilton and Burr readings, auctions of read volumes, and an April issue article on typhoid disease prevention.

Chivalry Topic to Lead Presbyterian Service Next Sunday

In the Presbyterian church next Sunday morning the subject will be Chivalry. Mr Spencer will address boys and Boy Scouts are invited if it does not clash with church duties.
