Clarence Grandski was unanimously chosen by the Municipal Band to serve as bandmaster. Prof Hobbie, retiring from leadership, will become President and manager while continuing as a band member. The Magnet Inn gathering, attended by band members, formally approved the selection.
Jacob Sauer of Cold Springs in Stearns county pled guilty in District Court to selling intoxicating liquor. He admitted selling four quart bottles to several people in New London, was arrested March 24 and arraigned March 26. Judge Quale imposed two hundred dollars or ninety days in jail. Sauer paid the fine. He runs a pool room at Cold Springs and said he came to New London seeking a soda fountain bargain.
Kandiyohi County Public Health Association schedules free dental clinics in local village schools for April 3 and 6 starting at 8 am. Dr Raymond Johnson assists with the county nurse and village directors. Mothers urged to bring children. focus on preventing later life dental disease.
The Col. Roosevelt Post No 20 to present Douglas MacLean and Doris May in The Rookie's Return at the Majestic Theatre on Wednesday April 13 with three performances including a matinee and two evenings. A Fatty Arbuckle comedy The Garage will also be shown. The program is a Paramount picture and promises an evening of laughs.
The W. H. S junior class presents its annual play What Happened to Braggs a three act farce. Misa Tillip Hanson coaches the cast with ten characters including Tom Scott Donald Gerrettson Arthur St. John and Hon. Alex Braggs the candidate for mayor. The show airs Friday in the school gymnasium with admission at 35 and 50 cents and a program starting at 8 p m.
A full house Tuesday evening enjoyed the Windmills of Holland operetta staged by the American Legion. Eight cast members and two choruses delivered a lively singing comedy with standout performances by Harold Severinson as Wilhelemena and Russel Curran as Hilda. Thorwald Thorson projected a prosperous Hollander persona while Sophus Larsen impressed as Hans. Two vaudeville numbers and Captain Youngs awkward squad drew loud audience laughter throughout the show.
The county agent will address the Green Lake Community Club in Woodman Hall Spicer on Friday evening April 1. The meeting aims to organize a township Farm Bureau unit for Green Lake. Farm Bureau members are urged to attend and bring others.

Naldo Johnson sues Andy Bomstad of Lake Lil Nan over alleged killing of Johnson’s sheep by Bomstad’s dogs. The case proceeded before a district court jury, detailing livestock losses and dog involvement.
Seven members of the local Masonic Order received the Third Degree in a ceremony at the Masonic Temple last Wednesday at 6 30 pm attended by 158 Masons. Recipients were Elmer Brogren Harker Lacy Minton Lundquist Floyd Politka Peter Henderson of Spicer H. H. Kendall and Oscar Pearson with delegations from Litchfield Atwater Raymond Clara City and Granite Falls.
Judge Qvale in the Twelfth Judicial District sentenced Harry E. Wheeler to an indeterminate period of confinement at Stillwater after a guilty plea. Wheeler claimed health and moral weakness as justification. He was arrested six hours after the February 17 crime in Kandiyohi and later arraigned in Willmar before a grand jury.
Willmar hosts a two day celebration July 4 and 5 sponsored by the local American Legion and Willmar Relief Club. Lieutenant Governor Louis Collins is listed as a speaker along with other service leaders. The Austin F Hanscom Post 167 leads planning with committee members Norman Tallackson Archie Carlson Russell Curran Arthur Magnuson and Emil Aspaas in charge. District meetings for 40 homes and chevaux are set for the same weekend.
George Brill transferred his Sanitary Barber Shop to T. J. Stieran of Crosby last Wednesday. Brill plans to leave for Minneapolis on Friday to pursue unspecified business. Stieran will set up spaces for Brill’s family who are expected to relocate soon.
A city meeting for women voters will be held at the Odd Fellows Hall next Friday at 2 34 in the afternoon to discuss amendments on the upcoming Tuesday election. All women are invited, with the event under the auspices of the Machinist and Boilermaker unions.
John C. Smith of Atwater won second prize of $50 for excellence in composition in a contest for Central School of Agriculture students at University Farm St Paul. Judges weighted construction 40 percent and subject matter 60 percent. The Central School, part of the University of Minnesota’s agriculture department, aims to train youths to be successful farmers. It has graduated over 2500, with 96 percent returning to farms. Entry requires age 17, eighth grade completion, and six months of practical farm experience.
