Willmar Considers City Support for Municipal Band

Residents would vote on April 4 to fund the Willmar Municipal Band via a city tax levy. The band, now financed independently, would have conductor pay and member instrument costs, with practice quarters and incidentals covered by the levy. The council aims to gauge public sentiment on placing band maintenance under city oversight at an estimated expense of about $2540.

Willmar Band to Give Sunday Concert at Dreamland Theatre

The Willmar Municipal Band presents its second concert of the season next Sunday at Dreamland Theatre starting at three o clock. Tickets 35 cents, available citywide and reservations after Friday at Halin Drug Store. Conducted by Clarence Graysk i the program lasts about an hour and a half with standard and semi classical pieces plus popular selections including March and Regiment Overcire Sky Pilot On to France Princess of India Overture Panorama Gypsy Blues Ku Lu A Hamlin Rifles and more.

Few teachers to leave as reengagements cover next term

The Board of Education acted on teachers for city schools and most were re engaged. The 1922 23 faculty will likely include several new teachers though some reengaged staff may not return for fall terms as they seek other locales. The current faculty will be retained for the next year despite rain.

Well Known Couple Wed in Swedish Lutheran Parsonage

The marriage of Miss Gladys Olson to Nels B. Olson took place Wednesday at 3 PM at the Swedish Lutheran parsonage with Rev. Jesper Holmquist officiating. The couple hosted a reception for forty at the bride's sister’s home, with a three course dinner and games, as guests from Pennock Vergas Mindedpolls.

Indictments Issued by Grand Jury In Liquor Cases

A Monday session of the Grand Jury ended Thursday morning with four indictments returned and eight made public. Most charges involve liquor law violations. Publicly named defendants include H. D. Davis, Henry Watson, Arthur Dalien, T. W. Smith, D. R. Douglas, Carl Johnson and Ed Bergstrom.

Public Health Institute lecture on child welfare at Univ of Minnesota

Miss Tiga Imsaahi county nurse attended the Public Health Institute held at the University in Minneapolis by the state medical school last week. Lectures and courses focused on child welfare and health with county nurses from the state in attendance. The seining crew finished a fish shipment of about 14000 pounds from Lake Morida and Eagle Lake on Saturday before heading home to Minneiska. The Eagle Lake Ladies Aid plans a church basement meeting on March 30 with Mrs. Oscar Peterson and Mrs. Ole Birkeland volunteering to serve.

County to acquire 32 work horses from Simpson Stock Co

The county commissioners have contracted for 32 work horses from the Simpson Stock Company of Minneapolis to be used in county road work during the summer.

New Pastor to Assume Charge at Swellish Mission

Rev G A Youngstrom new pastor for Swellish Mission will take charge next Sunday April 2. He was pastor at Bethany Church Minneapolis since December 1 but delayed moving here until his Minneapolis affairs settled. His departure was marked by a farewell gathering March 28 attended by Minneapolis and St Paul pastors.

Rev Youngstrom to lead new church pastorate in city

The church welcomes Rev. Youngstrom and his wife arriving Thursday to assume duties as pastor. He speaks Swedish in morning services and English in evening, with special music planned. He has sixteen years in Uniminiairy service and has held roles in Montana Chicago and Minneapolis. A clam chowder supper is planned at Carlson Hall on April 6 from 3 to 7 pm by St Lukes Guild.

Civic Club Meeting Set at Library on April Fourth

Civic Club will meet Thursday afternoon April 4 at the Library. After business, Father Hannon will tell a tale titled The Home. Full attendance is desired. Nine relief in tax matters applications appeared before the County Commissioners Friday and have been sent to the tax commission for action.

Hoglund Hardware Plans New 80 by 25 Foot Building

Hoglund Hardware Co plans a two story brick building with a full basement on Litehfield Ave beside the Palace Grocery and The Hison Shop. The 80 by 25 foot structure will replace the vacant lot and house the entire operation. Basement digging and construction will start as soon as weather allows.

Won Suit Over Assault Ends in $95 Damages

A. H. Brown sued J. A. Colbeck for assault and secured a district court verdict awarding $95 in damages after a hearing yesterday. Attorneys were Charles Johnson and R. W. ME Church to Erect New Temple on Fourth Street

The local Methodist congregation plans a new temple costing about twenty thousand dollars. The sixty by forty five foot stucco building will face East on Fourth Street with 875 seats and a basement community hall. A basketball court, sliding partitions, a tower, and possible remodeling of the present structure are included. financed by subscriptions and public donations with members contributing labor.

Assessors Meet to Discuss Tax Matters at Courthouse

County assessors from city village and townships convene in the courthouse with state tax commission representative H Bacon to discuss tax matters though several assessors are absent. State agricultural official Paul Kirk also attends, involved in census to agriculture.

Two Weed Inspectors For Kandiyohi County

Kandiyohi County will appoint two weed inspectors under a state law. Miller says the new inspectors will work June 1 to November 5 with twelve townships in their jurisdiction and will be paid by the county. They will receive guidance from the state department and aid farmers in eradicating sow thistle before it seeds. The Garfield School Parent-Teacher Association plans a food sale at Ackerman Meat Market next Saturday afternoon.

District G. O. P. convenes in city for district vote

The Seventh District Republican convention meets tomorrow in the county courthouse with 89 delegates from fourteen counties to endorse a candidate for Congress. Most support is likely for Andrew J. Volstead, with Theo Christianson of Dawson withdrawn. Delegation counts by county are listed. A separate note recalls a pleasant surprise for Mrs Mary Ward with a progressive whist party and umbrella memento.

Willmar Choral Society to stage Joan of Arc oratorio

The Willmar Choral Society rehearsed last evening and met a new oratorio titled Joan of Arc. The spring performance is planned for mid May, with active work already underway and expected to rank with the Messiah concert given on February 28.
