City approves telephone ordinance by 5 to 3 vote

The city council passed the telephone ordinance last Monday by five votes to three. Aldermen Anderson, Kent and Johnson voted no, while Fredrickson Erickson Sperry Freeberg and Dahlheim supported it. The mayor signed the measure and it is published in this issue. The meeting also featured a debate over the Bowe investigation and a crowded program at the High School concert.

Madison Wins State High School Championship in Willmar

Madison defeated Ada 29 to 20 to clinch the state basketball title at Willmar High School gym. Olson of Ada fell early, Madison led 17 8 at halftime, Ada tied 12 12 in the second half, and Madison's 30 supporters celebrated. Coaches and players named include Ray Little, Roy Little, Grant Jacobson, Leonard Jacobson, Paul Dahl, Oscar Berg, Alfred Thompson, Fred Robinson, mascot Arthur Houck, and Prof L W Feik. Attendance included Prof F W Dobbyn and several Madison supporters. Ada’s Prof A M Mueller coached.

Wellin Chosen For Mayor

The mass meeting last Thursday elected E. C G Wellin mayor by acclamation after nomination by Russell Spicer with Judge Gilbert seconding. Hans Gunderson won city clerk by 184 to 116. G C Haines acclaimed assessor and C W Odell treasurer. Ward races selected Johnson, Hedin, Sperry, Norman, and Freeberg as aldermen. no license contest.
