Willmar residents share visits and travels as Otto Christies and W. A. Mel discuss mayoral slate. Students take a week off for school vacation while multiple locals attend operas, church events, and social gatherings. A large Willmar contest raises $3240 for the W C T U as Albert Porter wins the silver medal, with remarks on civic duty and temperance politics.
A burglar broke into Judge Geo Muller’s home on Litchfield Avenue around 1 20 am last Sunday. He entered via two window sashes and escaped after being startled by the judge’s movement. A bulky ax found in the kitchen was identified as neighbor Soldahl’s property. The intruder left no trace and may be a novice. locks have since been altered and guards tightened. A prior similar incident at Muller’s home occurred last year. Also noted is the death of Miss Mary Olson, 22, daughter of Mr and Mrs Olson, from diphtheria after tonsillitis. The funeral was held at Lake Kaghe.
Elks from nearby cities crowned a day of events in Willmar with a large parade and an installation ceremony for Lodge No. 952. The banquet drew about 300 guests, with toastmaster W. W. Koons and speakers including Hop Weed Munro of Minneapolis and Judge Nethaway of Stillwater. The muddy streets and lively pageantry contrasted with the elaborate decor and orderly program, as locals celebrated the fraternal gathering and observed the annual ritual.
Andrew Steve tended cattle at the Institute and Priday calls. Mrs. Corsa Stene visited at L Nel and's place Sunday. A son was born to Mr and Mrs J Taare last Wednesday. Dr. Donewell of Kerkhoven assisted at G Yuerbow’s last Saturday. George and Hanneh Stone of Lake Andrew visited relatives at Weotlake Sunday. A dance was held at the home at 10 Skare Inch Saturday evening. Halvor Soli plans to leave for Blaseton, 5 D., this week. Mrs Bartz of Howard Lake visits her parents. Bo Stal from Beltrami county touring his farm later. Seeding will be in full swing if weather holds. March 27 Meid, Mrs J B Jacobson Kerkhoven spent Sunday at G Yaerboe’s. Willmar Seminary students returned home for vacation. Mr and Mrs G Kambestad Kerkhoven visited G O Kembestad last Sunday. Miss Elale Shipetead of New London begins three months term at Diss No 64 April 3. Uncle Ep.
Prinaburg notes show seed time thoughts and a prayer for rest of winter. A sale of personal property of R Green and Peter Dem Adil is set for Tuesday with buyers heading to Washington to relocate. A literary society held a late regular meeting with a good program and plans to elect officers next Friday for the new season beginning in November. An infant son of Mr and Mrs G Ledeboer died after two weeks with grippe, parents receive sympathy from all.
A vast audience filled Bonde hall on Saturday for a temperance event with Civic Federation President Fr. Osterholm presiding. Rev Feltz opened with prayer and Prof Hilleboe warned the city about risks of remaining silent without opposition. Rev Hogg delivered a forceful speech against saloon culture, urging continued reform and support for law and order. A funds check for 319 was presented to Chief Bostle and Patrolman Stephens to reimburse legal costs in a prior case. Free coffee and cake followed, with Y P meeting later drawing full attendance and a separate reception for Prof Elmer Thompson at the seminary attended by about 150 students.
The Astle village of Louisburg in Lac qui Parle county was struck by a tornado Monday evening injuring eight people, three of whom may die. Most businesses were razed or heavily damaged except two, and twelve residences along the storm path mostly destroyed. Cattle shipments and property losses are estimated, with at least 100000 in damages reported. Local families and neighbors responded as schools and social events lingered, including a wedding set for next week at the Gilger home.
A deal closed last Saturday transferred the Commercial club rooms upstairs in the Kandiyohi County Bank building to the local order of Eles. The club will furnish the space with weathered oak and end material fixtures. EK C Wallin went to Minneapolis to purchase necessary fixtures for the new club rooms. A baseball team has been organized at the Seminary with Melvins Grangaerd as manager and should be ready to challenge neighboring schools. News notes include weather delays, local visits, and civic updates with several social items and upcoming orchestra plans for April 21.
