A switchman named K. S. Brewer suffered a severe left arm injury after a car rolled and severed his arm at the elbow while uncoupling box cars Tuesday morning at the local yards. He was taken to Bethesda Hospital where Dr. B. H. Prost treated him and Brewer was reported to be getting along nicely. Edman Brothers Poland China sale at the fairgrounds drew buyers Monday with a top price of 127.50 and an average of 64.30, grossing 4051.00. Red Cross gift bought by E. L. Thorpe for 95.00.
The local board will soon be allotted a limited number of men for special training classes under the U S War Department with several universities nationwide. Enlistees should file with the focal board now for early April call. Nelson Bros Steam Laundry offers to wash Red Cross rags free of charge. Junior Commercial League meets April 2 at Carlson Hall with a program followed by games.
In the upcoming city election on April 2 a contest for City Assessor is noted. K. T. Rykken received a caucus nomination while O. A. Grangaard's name was submitted by petition to the ballot. Bert Swanson spent last Saturday in Minneapolis.
The city election will now include a race for assessor between incumbent Gramgaard and convention nominee KT. Rykken. Gramgaard, persuaded by public demand, submitted the question to voters, promising at least some interest in what was expected to be a routine ballot. No other races were added and no sticker candidates appeared yet.
Oscar Ahlberg, a 151 Aero Squadron draftee from Beltrami County, died of pneumonia on March 6 somewhere in France after reporting safe arrival. He was born April 24 1893 in New London and leaves father, two brothers Victor and Amfrid, sisters Esther and Ellen, and a late mother. The community extends sympathy as the first local fatality among serving men is recorded.
The district continues its drive toward the $1.00 allotment with about $6,000 collected. Meetings are planned at Masonic building and Benson with J. Berry of Minneapolis as principal speaker. Democratic County Conference convened at City Hall with delegates chosen for the State Conference in St Paul. A letter from Paris reached after nine days. A chicken pie supper for Red Cross at Thorpe schoolhouse. War Saving Stamp Rally set for April 3 with speeches by officials. Train No. 12 delayed after boxcar derailment near Litchfield. Local notes include Delmonico Cafe owner Hos vesko and Easter plans for V. Rasmusson.

Leonard Johnson family visited Franklin Grader home in Atwater. Carleton College students spending Easter vacation at home. Chas V Johnson returned Thursday to Willows Saskatchewan after visit. Misa Hazel Elmquist arrived to spend Easter with home. Corporal Hans C Peterson of Rhode Island appointed sergeant. Gladys Wold of this city, recent St Cloud Normal graduate, employed in Hines. Obituary notices report Ole T. Sandbo aged father of T. Sandbo dying at the Delmonico Café, with surviving children Albert Alex Sateen Olot and seven grandchildren. The report also covers Rev. Sunbury March 25 1918 Senator P A Gandrud issues a public statement denying plans to seek renomination for the state senate. He cites current duties and notes support from farmers Non-partisan League members and others while stating he would serve constituents if elected.
Dr H A Whittaker of the Minnesota State Board of Health cautions that investigations show risks from ice distribution to consumers and urges strict adherence to 1918 permit provisions and sanitation safeguards.
