Willmar Peat Company forms and plans plant south of city

Articles of incorporation filed in Minnesota for the Willmar Peat Company with 810,000 capital stock. Directors include Bernard C. Litz as president and others. Factory to be built two miles south of Willmar near Mr. Ferring’s peat bogs. Plant to use a German-made disintegrating condenser and compressor with 25 tons per 10 hours capacity, operating day and night. Peat will feed drying and grading systems for market sale at par.

Citizens Campaign Opens At Bonds Hall Social

The Citizens temperance campaign begins Monday evening at Bonds Hall with a social hosted by a joint committee of city church ladies. Refreshments will be served for 10 cents to fund the temperance cause. Coffee and lunch run from six to eight, followed by Rev. Joseph Hogg’s stirring address. The committee invites all residents to attend and support a clean city.

Railroad Opposes Saloon Referenda Sunday Trips, Says Policy

A Willmar resident sought verification of a claim that the Great Northern Company would cancel Sunday excursions to Willmar if saloons were not licensed. The carrier replied that it opposes saloons, and typically does not run Sunday excursions to Willmar, except on public requests. The letter, dated March 11, 1906, is signed by FF Warnes, Passenger Traffic Manager.

Surprise silver wedding for G J Boom in Lake Elizabeth
