Enthusiastic Citizens Endorse the Present Administration

Temperance supporters held a mass meeting to name an independent city ticket for Willmar. Mayor S. B. Qvale was unanimously nominated for re election, with solid backing for aldermen from all wards and a pledge to keep the city government clean and efficient despite cold weather and vociferous opposition claims.

Men’s Club Organized at St Luke’s Parish

A Men’s Club was formed at St Luke’s parish during a meeting at the Commercial Club rooms. Officers for one year were elected: President Russell Spicer, Vice President D N Tallman, Recording Secretary C E Hornbeck, Corresponding Secretary C H Johnson, Treasurer Alton Crosby, with H J Kameett Dr F E Twitchell and Alexander Williams on the executive committee. Fifteen charter members enrolled. The club will meet monthly starting next Monday evening at the rectory, and the first project is fundraising for the church’s chancel and pipe organ.

Cannery Meeting Planned at Willmar Commercial Club

A public meeting is set for Saturday March 18 at 3 o clock in the Commercial Club rooms to discuss erecting a corn cannery in Willmar. Business leaders and farmers are urged to attend. stock has partial subscriptions and organizers aim to form a group with little delay. Pernt Hong, Secretary.

Silver Medal Contest at Bonde hall Friday March 24

The W C T U silver medal contest will be held at Bonde hall on Friday evening March 24. Six young men will compete for the honor of the evening with rehearsed pieces including solos duets and orations. Programs feature Lutheran Free Church Choir, Reginald Sharpe, Arthur Anderson, Maxfield Lewis, Martha Pearson, and Prof. J. Harold Powers among others.

Ample Fund Backed For Public School Library Orders

County superintendent Wobbyo reports a letter from late library contractors confirming an 810,000 appropriation for the deficit in the State Public School Library fund. The measure passed both houses and will cover all orders from school districts until August 1 when the new fund year begins. Pending orders since December will be filled as promptly as possible with extra staff to speed processing.

Reverend Gynild Resigns Pastoral Charge

Rev. E E Gynild resigns after 14 years serving Lutheran Free churches at Willmar St Johns and Eagle Lake due to the Eagle Lake split forming a separate pastorate with Lutheran Orphans Home to be built nearby. Infant Dies After Poisoning At Home

An eighteen month old boy of Mr and Mrs Philip Haley fatally swallowed tablets containing strychnine belladonna yesterday. He died in the afternoon about five o'clock despite efforts by Dr Mc Laughlin and Dr Harold Frost. Funeral set for ten o'clock tomorrow. Epworth League held a successful social Friday at Aston Swenson home with games and refreshments. Participants included Edith Crawford Grace Hall and others in a piano duet and violin selections.

Willmar Gasoline Engine Works Sold at Special Meeting

At a special stockholders meeting in Willmar the Willmar Gasoline Engine Works sold its entire property to J F Millard for 5150 with Kandiyohi County Bank backing the bid. Debts total 5150 and the bank has not decided on use of the acquired plant. The firm organized in 1898 and Lars Halvorson served as longtime manager.
