The Swedish Literary Society of Willmar marked the fiftieth anniversary of the Hampton Roads naval battle with a program at Carlsson's hall. Readings and speeches by C. W. Linn on Ericsson biography, Mrs. A. B. Skoog on the Monitor, W. E. Lawson on the Merrimac and Monitor duel, A. C. Forsberg on its Union significance, and Rev. Theo Livingstone on Ericsson's homecoming. Musical numbers featured Florence Porter and a male quartet plus instrumental pieces by Collin Nordstrom Swenson.

A home talent play titled A Leap Year Proposal will be staged next Friday evening March 15 under Mrs J D Parnell for the Red Cross Society. Written by Mrs Clara M Ball and dramatized by John H Styles Jr it is a fully home grown production. A full house is anticipated due to interest in the cast and the charitable cause.

John Pallin, newly renovated Willmar grocer, asks locals for patronage as he opens beside the Pacific and Third corner opposite the freight depot. A Swedish Seminary and Northwestern University alum, Pallin moved here for his children’s schooling and to make Willmar his home. Four men charged after assault at Willmar town
Sheriff Bonde arrested four men for third degree assault in Irving and Roseville incidents. Ernest and Arthur Clark faced Olsen brothers over disconnection orders from a rural telephone line, resulting in injuries. Clarks and Ponds face separate trials set for Mar 22. Mrs Anderson presses charges against the Ponds for trespass. Farmers' Institute at Svea draws 200 attendees with practical talks on horticulture, hogs, corn, and home use of clay blocks. Luther League plans Willmar events June 29 to July 1 with Meeker Kandigotho counties participating. Engagements listed. Arthur Anderson’s son Arthur returns from hospital quarantine. Dawson straw vote shows Follette leading with Roosevelt and Debs trailing.

Death of prominent Willmar hardware dealer John Lundquist
John Lundquist, a well known Willmar hardware dealer, died last Thursday evening at his home after a lingering stomach cancer. Born in Sweden on April 16, 1861, he immigrated in 1870 and lived in Goodhue, Kandiyah, Colfa, then Willmar. He married Benny Sandberg in 1889, leaving six children, two brothers, two sisters, and many friends. He served in the Willmar Fire Department and was a First National Bank director. The funeral was at the Swedish Separatist church with Rev. Swan Edlund. burial at Fairview cemetery. The Willmar Fire Department attended.
