Carpenter Fatally Injured by Falling Plank in Yard Accident

John Alm, a Great Northern carpenter, was fatally struck when a plank fell on his head during unloading at the local yards. Born May 19 1861 in Halsingsand Sweden he came to Willmar nineteen years ago and leaves wife Caroline Nelson and three sons Emil Alfred Ben. Victor predeceased in 1913. Funeral set for Friday at 2 30 p.m. at Swedish M E church with Rev Livingston officiating.

Ascension Team to Play Here in Weekend Matches

Local basketball fans will see the fast Ascension team of Minneapolis face Cosmos Club at the high school gym on Friday and Saturday evenings. Expect two strong games with a 9:30 tip for the main event after an 8:15 preliminary. Admission 15 and 26 cents. Also report of the Johnson Lindgren wedding as Miss Alice Clarabel Lindgren tied with Mr. John Albert Johnson, with a three course dinner for about 75 guests and plans for home in Arctander township.

Lecture on The Voyages of the Vikings at Willmar

Dr Henry Goddard Leach will deliver an illustrated lecture at Willmar Seminary on Friday evening March 1 on The Voyages of the Vikings. The talk covers Norse discovery of America around 1000 and expeditions to Russia Constantinople Jerusalem Sicily and conquests of Normandy and England. The American Scandinavian Foundation funds scholars amid Danish American ties and Minnesota students Lars Berg and Axel Brett study abroad. Interior work on Kandiyohi County Bank proceeds, with contractor Olson and decorators Hogan aiming to finish by mid April in new quarters.

St Marys Ladies Host Supper and Sale at Carlson Hall

The St Marys church ladies plan their annual supper and sale at Carlson Hall on Wednesday March 17. Supper at 6:30 pm costs twenty five cents, menu includes hot mashed potatoes roast pork apple sauce beans and bread plus cake doughnuts and coffee. A parcel shower and sale of fancy articles aprons and candy will follow hosted by Miss Tillie Noren and Esther Rodlun. Also notes of parlor decor and a musical contest with Miss Barbara Williams and a mock wedding entertain guests.

Parnells Cancel Appearances and Rev Pearson Receives Call

The Parnells, due to Emerys throat trouble, canceled engagements in April and stayed with the Parnells until Sunday. Rev W E Pearson of Bethel Lutheran has received a call from Gloria Dei, St Paul, to replace Rev Sjogren who resigns. The First M E Ladies Aid plans a St Patrick lunch on March 17 with beans potato salad bread and pie and coffee. A Soo division wrecker was called to Russell and Tintah for derailments and broken draw bar. Mrs J W Kent and Miss Esther Sorenson host a public parish coffee for St Luke's Episcopal church on Benson Ave March 16 from 3 PM onward. Mission Circle of Swedish Baptist surprised Mrs Hedman with silver ware and linen.

Raymond Holds Dry As Harrison Votes Wet In Local Election

Town meeting day saw Raymond vote dry by a 15 vote margin while Harrison went wet by four. Reported results varied 64 to 58 or 56 to 60 with over 120 ballots cast in Harrison. Contests loom as liquor issue stirs local sentiment and wholesale beer moves appear likely. Nearby counties show mixed dry and wet outcomes with De Graff abolishing saloons by ten votes.

Raymond Votes to Maintain Dry Day in 1915

In Raymond Minnesota on March 9 1915 the no license faction won 49 to 34 keeping the village dry for the second time. The result likely ends saloons in Kandiyohi County and avoids county option costs. Court in Session Opens Spring Term at Ten O'clock

The Spring Term of the District Court convenes Monday at 10 am. Fourteen civil cases and four criminal cases fill the calendar. Fifteen applications for citizenship will be heard at the opening session, with numerous named civil actions listed including Gratz versus Sandberg and Lippert versus State of Minnesota among others. Also noted are civil appeals and local government cases.

Famous Comedy Coming at Seminary

Ludvig Hollberg's famous comedy The Political Tinker will be staged by the Omneo Society dramatic club at Willmar Seminary next Thursday evening March 18. The English language debut of a noted Scandinavian play features 8 o'clock curtain, 25 cents general admission, 35 cents for reserved seats. Cast includes Herman Von Bremen, Jens the tavern keeper, Einar Erickson Bihar, Frans the cutter, Myrtle Andersen, Arianke the blacksmith's wife, and others.
