Two Cabooses Lost in Collison West of Clontarf

Two freight trains collided end to end a mile west of Clontarf causing two cabooses to be crushed and two gondolas to overturn. No one aboard the cabooses was harmed. Wrecking crews from Willmar cleaned debris, marking this the third Willmar Division wreck in two weeks. An investigation to fix responsibility followed the incident amid near-tragic warnings. Also noted is a Baptist Young People meeting at the church basement Friday led by Hope Group with a varied program.

No Closing of Schools Despite Low Attendance

The city schools will not be ordered closed for a week due to decreased attendance and colds among children. The current absentee list is not large enough to justify a shutdown, and such action would not materially improve conditions. The Willmar District Swedish Lutheran churches concluded meetings, with Bethel church receiving thirty two new members. The Vikor Y P S plans a gathering at Solomon Lake church basement on Friday March 10 at 8 pm hosted by the Albert Hanson and J T Syvertson families. Everyone is welcome.

Sixty-Second Anniversary Of J A Wilson

Mr and Mrs J A Wilson celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on February 27, totaling 88 and 87 years. The couple, longtime Kandiyohi County settlers since 1878 from Dakota County, lived with son George W Wilson and daughter in law in Harrison. Light March calendar for District Court opens March 20

The District Court term begins March 20 with Judge G E K Qvale presiding. Juries will have peaceful duties, liquor violation cases may arise, and fifteen citizenship applicants will be examined. Sheriff Bonde serves jurors’ notices while the Spicer Schultz matter from 1921 may resurface. Five men faced disorder charges at a public meeting. hearing set for April 5.

City voters met at the courthouse hall last Friday under organized labor. Hugh Campbell presided and endorsements were made for aldermen and a mayoral candidate. Ward groups backed Peterson and Sandbo, Cramer for justice, Campbell for second ward, Nelson for third, Freeberg for fourth. no opposition to city project voiced. The Central Labor body later endorsed the ticket.

Young man pleads not guilty in intoxication case

Ceasar Linn appeared in Municipal Court last Friday before Judge Milley on a charge of intoxication. He pleaded not guilty and posted 15 bail. Trial was set for March 18 but rescheduled to April 8.

Militia Company to Be sworn In

A city militia company reached the required strength and will be sworn in later this week by an army officer from Morris or the Twin Cities. After the oath the unit will finalize organization details, including a drilling site. Business leaders have subscribed over one thousand dollars to support the effort, to be combined with a city site request debated at the next City Council meeting.

Miss Alvina Knott Weds Rex Berg in Breckenridge

A quiet ceremony at the M. H. church in Breckenridge united Miss Alvina P. Knott formerly of this county with Rex A. Berg son of Mr and Mrs A Berg of this city on Wednesday November 22. Willmar Washed Sand and Gravel Co forms to mine Long Lake gravel

Messrs William O Johnson and J Swenson join with H L Wadell to form the Willmar Washed Sand and Gravel Co. They acquire property on Long Lake two miles south of Hawick with a 10 inch hydraulic suction dredge, 200 hp engine, on a barge. The plant will wash and screen gravel into grades, operate about March 15, and start around April 1 with a spur from the Great Northern line.

Fire harms Clifton Larson home in Renville loss reported

Prominent Renville figure Harry Molenaar recounts a Sunday fire at the Clifton Larson residence that destroyed the interior and furniture. The cause remains unknown as the family was not home. The Willmar Gommergta Club held a Friday meeting with Elmer Peterson presiding in place of the ailing Hilday Hoaglund. Resolutions on armory funding were tabled as members discussed costs, state aid, and public vote.
