War Club Week aims to fuse thrift stamps and liberty loan drive

Final figures show L Q Thorpe and Lewis Johnson leading a Lutheran war drive, bringing Kandiyohi County total to 6919.75. Denominations include Norwegian and Swedish churches, with funds remitted to denominational treasurers and a draft sent to E F Hilert in New York for the Lutheran Soldiers and Sailors fund. Twenty Stars in Vinje Service Flag Unveiled at Vinje

At Vinje church last Sunday evening closing service a U S flag and a service flag with twenty stars were unveiled. The choir sang two selections as the names of the fallen and serving men were listed: Lieut. Letter From a French Comrade Sent Home in Quaint English

The Misses Hazel and Edith Nelgon received a letter from French comrade Paul Bounefond, once with their brother Esmond, now at a military school in Deux Sevres. Bounefond praises Esmond and hopes to return home in glory. Reverend J N Andersen departed Tuesday for Minneapolis.

Fuel shortage warning prompts wood cutting drive

Gov A E Rice cites a strong letter from Federal Fuel Administrator J F McGee warning of a 60 million ton coal shortfall next year. He urges local cooperative efforts to cut wood now to supply fuel for the next season and notes coal distribution rules will tighten where wood is available.

Icelandic worker speaks Sunday at Swedish Baptist church

Rev. David Ostlund, superintendent of Scandinavian work for the Anti-Saloon League, will preach next Sunday morning at the Swedish Baptist church. Ostlund, editor and leader in Iceland, the first dry country, will share facts. A collection for the League will be taken.
