Five year old Ruth Margaret Gilbertson died after her clothes ignited when near a gasoline stove lighting a window view. She burned severely, died at seven pm with her mother present. Funeral held at 3 pm from Becker Avenue home with floral tributes and pallbearers. born March 3, 1897, she would have celebrated a fifth birthday last Sunday.
The Minnesota agency of the Central Life Assurance Society of Des Moines won a silver cup in a contest against Montana to write the most insurance from October 1 to December 31 last year. The Minnesota team hustled and secured the victory, earning statewide pride.
The Central Life market opened 1912 with record growth far surpassing prior years. State agent J. F. Branton and team are praised for their performance. A recent Monthly Bulletin featured a half tone cut of Branton. Free Church Mission meetings this week in the Free Lath church feature Rev Olson Morris and several other local speakers.
The Commercial Club committee announced advance sale of 280 transfer tickets at two dollars for the St Paul Symphony Club event in Willmar on March 25. Advance buyers will exchange tickets for seats, with general sale starting shortly after, left section seats at one dollar, amid high demand and possible outside inquiries.
The International Harvester Company will erect a 40 by 64 foot warehouse at Willmar with 75 feet of rail frontage west of the Minnesota Western elevator. Goods will be shipped in carload lots to Willmar and then to nearby points. H. KE. Shouers, head of the Deering division here, arranged a rail lease, and P. M. Peterson will oversee the warehouse. Previously distributing from Granite Falls showed Willmar’s favorable location for such enterprise.
At the March Commercial Club meeting Willmar decide to join the West Central Development Association of Minnesota formed after a Morris gathering. L. O. Thorpe elected to represent the club at the upcoming organization meeting. Ben Benson reported on the State Federation of Commercial Clubs. Ole Goranson and family plan a temporary move from their Willmar farm remains unsettled. Royal Neighbors Camp held a social at Carlson hall with three new members. Miss Knutson and Miss Findley of Spicer attended the Sunday school convention in Willmar. Henry Brack reported Mrs Brack recovering well at St Luke’s hospital in St Paul.
The second election on issuing bonds for a new fire station carried by a large margin. Voters polled more than in the previous election with decisive results. Precinct totals show strong support in all wards, with about half the eligible voters participating.
Numerous residents visit or host relatives and friends across Kandiyohi and surrounding towns. Mentions include Miss Cora Bertram in Benson, Miss Leah Stewart in Litchfield, G W Swenson in Raymond, J Sanderson and Daisy in Kandiyohi, and many others, with church, medical, and educational ties noted.
An important Kandiyohi meeting is set for Monday at 2:30 PM to discuss consolidating districts 35 78 86 33 and 46 into one six room school unit. Assistant Superintendent P C Tanning will address residents and nearby districts about building a larger school and possible transportation practices studied in Kerkhoven and Willmar areas.
A Willmar socialist locals meeting last night agreed on a complete city slate. Mayor J C Forsberg, Treasurer C H Lunstead, Clerk Carl Amenrud, Assessor Martin Peterson, Justice Theodore Rosby. Aldermen: 1st Ward H T Tostenson, 2nd Ward Hugh Campbell, 3rd Ward Martin Enger, 4th Ward Peter Freeberg. No citizen caucus call yet. Election April 2. filing deadline March 23.

A republished call announces a county fair meeting at Willmar Court House at 1 30 p m on March 16 to discuss establishing a Kandiyohi County Fair. Farmers Short Course leaders plan to enlarge the Street Fair Association into a Kandiyohi County Fair Association and elect nine new board members. A Kandiyohi County Corn Growers meeting follows the court house session for members and others interested in growing better corn.
The Senior class play Thompson of the U will be given Friday evening at the Willmar Opera House. The next game will be played at Granite Falls Saturday evening between Granite Falls and Willmar high school teams. The first Seminary High School game was played last Friday evening in the high school gym, ending nine to twenty five. Alfred Erickson enjoys a two week vacation from the Sash and Door factory, visiting relatives in Montana. Mrs. Emil Linn hosted a birthday gathering at her Second Street home with a dainty lunch and table linen gift.
Sunday in Willmar brings news of visits and entertaining across families. Miss Pauline Thonvold stays near home while Ed Elkjer hosts friends, and Emms Hildecl hosts Sewing Club. Several residents return from visits in Whitefield DeGraff and the twin cities as others resume duties after illness or travel.
